A guantlet is about to laid down.

We have the Boo Radleys Anthology website ready to go live in the next few days, but we're missing lyrics for some tracks.

Martin does not have all the tracks to hand, and is finding it difficult to decipher parts of some of the songs.

We're wondering if any board members might like to have a go at providing lyrics for the any of the following songs.

As soon as we have them all, the site goes live...

Tomorrow
From The Bench At Belvidere
Cracked Lips Homesick
Let Me Be Your Faith
Buffalo Bill
Sunfly II
Does This Hurt?
Spaniard
Lazy Day
Everybird
The Finest Kiss
Kaleidoscope
Hip Clown Rag
Happens To All Of Us
Catweazle

Use this thread for your submissions - between us we should be able to do this...

Lazy Day:

come stab it faster
the demon thats inside me
if thats what you're after
do it quick, hurt me

Jesus, I didn't even know I knew that.

Simple one first: Lazy Day is just one verse repeated isn't it?

Come stab it faster
the demon that's inside me
that's what you're after
do it quick - hurt me

Have to listen to the rest tonight.
You're gonna get some varied interpretations from the Ichibod era.

fans trying to transcribe song lyrics can lead to some 'hilarious' results, but I'm gonna have a go... starting with a seemingly easy one:

CRACKED LIPS, HOMESICK

If these cracked lips could talk to your ear, my pain would cease
If these sore eyes could see you just for a while
Take these lines and keep them somewhere
Keep them close so I’ll always be near

If these tired hands could touch you, I could carry on somehow
If these worn ears could hear you laugh again
Take these lines and keep them somewhere
Keep them close so I’ll always be near

You’re always in my head, how can you say I’m dead
I’ll be home, I’m sorry, please believe it
I remember what you said; a love needs to be fed
Now I know, now I know what you mean

You’re always in my head, how can you say I’m dead
I’ll be home, I’m sorry, please believe it
I remember what you said; a love needs to be fed
Now I know, now I know what you mean

this one was easy, being a cover, and easily found in a web search Wink

TOMORROW

Tomorrow
Tomorrow never comes
What kind of a fool
Do they take me for?

Tomorrow
A resting place for bums
A trap set in the slums
But I know the score

I won't take no for an answer
I was born to be a dancer now, Yeah

Tomorrow
Tomorrow, as they say
Another working day and another chore

Tomorrow
An awful price to pay
I gave up yesterday
But they still want more

They are bound to compare me
To Fred Astaire when I'm done

Anyone who feels the rhythm movin' through 'em
Knows it's gonna do 'em good to let the music burst out
When you feel assured let the people know it
Let your laughter loose until your scream becomes a love-shout, ah

Tomorrow
Tomorrow's far away
Tomorrow, as they say,
Is reserved for dreams

Tomorrow
Tomorrow's looking grey
A playground always locked
Trains no winning teams

I won't take no for an answer
I was born to be a dancer now

Anyone who feels the rhythm movin' through 'em
Knows it's gonna do 'em good to let the music burst out
When you feel assured let the people know it
Let your laughter loose until your scream becomes a love shout
Ah

Okay, it's becoming more difficult. I used to think it was "Bonnie and me" until I knew of the song 'Barney (...And Me)', so now I don't know, but I'll go with the latter.

FROM THE BENCH AT BELVEDERE

Barney and me, you know we lived out our dreams
Outside the newsagents closed for the night

We dreamt of being kings
Okay, we did the same things but never the same way twice

The picture's faded, I'm still the same
It's the picture (that) keeps me sane

Who stops the lonely thinking of the time when we were the only
Who stops my mind from going round, round, round, round and round it goes

Not much to say, you've headed out of King's Way
While I took the ???
Tomorrow would be the same
Somehow, I feel it's a shame that we won't be there tonight

Who stops the lonely thinking of the time when we were the only
Who stops my mind from going round, round, round, round and round

??? in the ???
Sittin' through the rain and the dark
Barely seventeen
Feelin' like we've been in so long

The picture's faded, I'm still the same
It's the picture (that) keeps me sane

Who stops the lonely thinking of the time when we were the only
Who stops my mind
Who stops my mind
Who stops my mind
From Belvedere
Belvedere

I'm not even sure about some of that, other than the obvious (-- highlighted by question marks). Anyone else..?

Beat me to it Disco!
Knew that would happen!

I have:

Barney and me, You know we lived out our dreams,
Outside the newsagents closed for the night.
We dreamt of being kings, OK, we did the same things,
But never the same way twice.

The picture's faded, I'm still the same,
It's the picture keeps me sane.

Ooh, stops the lonely,
thinking of the time when we were the only,
Ooh, stops my mind, from going round,
round, round, round and round it goes.

Not much to say, you've headed out of Kingsway,
While I took the avenue down,
Tomorrow would be the same, somehow I feel it's a shame,
That we won't be there tonight.

The picture's faded, I'm still the same,
It's the picture keeps me sane.

Ooh, stops the lonely,
thinking of the time when we were the only,
Ooh, it stops my mind, from going round,
round, round, round and round.

Reflected in the pane,
Sitting through the rain,
And the dark.

Barely seventeen,
Feeling like we've been here so long.

The picture's faded, I'm still the same,
It's the picture keeps me sane.

Ooh, it stops the lonely,
thinking of the time when we were the only,
Ooh, it stops my mind,
Ooh, it stops my mind,
Ooh, it stops my mind,
On Belvidere, Belvidere.

Having checked the live and unplugged versions too... I'm sure about 'While I took the avenue down'
And I have the line 'Feeling like we've been here so long' slightly different to you. It's also definitely 'Reflected in the...' something... the best I can come up with is 'pane' as in pane of glass?

Mark

I'll be interested to know what 'Spaniard' is, as I always play that on the guitar and never have any idea what the actual words are!

Let me be your faith

Come back home
Let me your faith
I know you've got your secrets
But i've got nothing left to hide
You never say what you mean
You don't mean much anyhow
I'd kill you were you truthful
I'd kill you when you lie
I'd kill you when you like

Do do do de do do do
Do do do de do do do
De de de da de de de da
Mmmmmm aaahh (to fade)

Buffalo Bill

Everything is alright
Now the day's back in sight
But the pain in my guts is much worse

I can't wake him at all
And his face looks so sore
And in here, there is no room to breath

So we sat and we talked
Two of him, so i thought
Then he rose and he left me alone

So i climbed to my room
The day can't come too soon
And i left and i came home to you

And ...
Sunfly II: Walking with the kings

When will this all end
I've seen it through
I am true
Cleansed in the fountain
Now i'm pure too
I am true
I as my witness
Mouth insane
Called your name
Soared over mountains
I came for you
I am true

yep, I think you're right about "Reflected in the pane" (at least it sounds right, I could only think that it was a word beginning with F)

And I'm sure you're right about "Feeling like we've been here so long" - I was a bit careless with that line, meant to check it again Embarassed

as for "avenue down" - the recorded version isn't clear, I don't hear the 'ue' part of avenue, but maybe Martin can confirm it!

On the live acoustic version from Denmark that I downloaded from someone on this very site (Tommy I expect) it sounds a lot like 'I took the avenue down'...

We'll see I guess!

Spaniard

Hey, now thanks for stopping by
You know it was worth the try
But I don’t think like you do
Will you come see me again?
My thoughts could tell you when
But I don’t give them away
Can I show you where to hide?
When things get rough outside
You’ll know just when to arrive
Can you work out what I mean?
I’ll word it nice and clean
I’ve given you all that I have
But if that’s not enough I’m sorry
But if that’s not enough I’m sorry

Does This Hurt?

Carolyn, Carolyn you’ve smashed your dreams and now you’ve taken mine
Carolyn, Carolyn you talk so low and make out you’re so kind
Carolyn, Carolyn you’ve trampled on the only one who cared
Carolyn, Carolyn don’t walk off and pretend you haven’t heard
Carolyn, Carolyn if you’re so high and clever where’s your friends?
If you’re so high and clever where’s your friends?
