Michael Kamen
15 April 1948 - 18 November 2003
Michael died of a suspected heart attack at his home in London, at the age of 55.
Composer of many many film soundtracks. Also worked together with some of my favourite artists, for example David Bowie and Tom Petty. We can thank him for the orchestral arrangements on Tom Petty's "Wildflowers", that's a brilliant album. Rest in Peace Michael.

24 schoolkids killed in a bus crash in Finland
Heard the tragic news as soon as I turned on the radio this morning. Such a sad start for such a beautiful day.
A school bus full of kids, most of them around the age of 14 and 15, were on their way to Northern Finland for a school trip, when the bus crashed with a heavy lorry. The collision sent the lorry's cargo of heavy industrial paper rolls crashing through the windscreen of the bus - most of the kids died instantly, only a few survived.

This must be one of the worst road accidents in Finland's history, definitely the worst for decades anyway. 24 young kids dead, the other 15 in the bus were seriously injured, 8 of them are still in critical condition.
Flags across Finland flew at half-mast to mourn the victims, this has been a really sad day. The Finnish government has also declared a national day of mourning.
I think this is a really big accident, even on global scale. That's why I was surprised when I read the news on BBC and CNN and on the other big news agencies - there's not even mention of the accident anywhere!! There's a big story about Finland's ex-PM's Iraq scandal thing though, but that doesn't interest anyone in Finland today.

Not a very nice end for the school trip. Sad

Richie from Acetone- I really liked ‘I guess I would’, which is a lovely album of slow, fuzzy country covers and went to Spiritualized a few years back, partly because Acetone was supporting them. They weren’t allowed into the country. A couple of years later Richie killed himself after recording their (best) self-titled album. It probably seems a bit out of place to mention this amongst all the disasters/influential people above, but the albums are a good epitaph and well worth tracking down

Good to see Foe up there too- top man and the best midfielder City had playing for them for donkey's years

Fred Dibnah
(1938 - 2004)
The world has lost a great, world famous steeplejack from Bolton.
And he was funnier than Peter Kay, which isn't a difficult task.
