july was a good month. i was a happy bunny.
now it seems i was living in blissful ignorance all the time, the bad news were just around the corner.
yesterday i found out that my good friend uncle stu has passed away.
on july 15th. more than a month ago! definitely couldn't see that coming.
ok, we weren't the closest of friends, but he was a good bloke.
this thread is my tribute to uncle stu.
i met uncle stu two years ago (05 dec 2003, to be precise!) in london. he was my mate's uncle, not mine, but i still called him uncle stu for some reason. he had invited me to come see his favourite band the inspiral carpets play at shepherds bush that night. me and uncle stu and a couple of friends went to some smoky pub somewhere nearby, had a pint or four, and had an interesting chat about his boo radleys experiences and finnish beer.
the inspiral carpets gig was pretty good despite of the fact that i had only ever heard one song by them before! uncle stu gave me cigs when i ran out of mine. we then went to the afterparty where he introduced me to the bald bloke (martyn something?) from the band - apparently they were good mates.
we had a quality time, got wasted, and went back home pretty late.
much too early next day i was sitting in a train. i went to see football in bristol and then took a train to cardiff. our very own captain had a gig there that evening and i was heading there of course, i told him about my adventures with uncle stu as well. happy days.
i used to talk to uncle stu on the magical world of internet as well, he was a smashing bloke, always a good laugh... although a bit spooky and odd as well sometimes!
he told me he's looking forward to meeting me again when we last talked to each other. i was looking forward to meeting him as well. it's a shame i couldn't go this year. it's never gonna happen now and i'll miss him.
well, so long uncle stu, and thanks for the good memories.
