Great interview. I always think that Martin's personality really come sthrough in interviews, he should do more of them. It's like those Pete Townshend interviews that are almost an artform in themself. Someday I hope to actually get the fortitude to actually re-type the huge interview I did with him (Martin, not Pete) that was published in the Big Takeover a few years ago. You want to get him when he's drinking, he says all sorts of shit.
Two quotes that stand out ot me:
"While I was listening to it, I kept thinking that if John Lennon was alive today and had embraced technology, this is the sort of music he'd be creating." said by the interviewer. Not only is that as high a compliment as I can imagine, but it's totally true!
And also the bit about the cats laughing when Martin raps. C'mon, Milkshake loves your freestylin', man. It told me so. |

i think it is really good. Jerusalem is probably my favourite right now. I'm finding all the akira the don stuff i've heard so far very impressive. I think this may be my favourite bravecaptain album. though i think i have said that about all of them when they have come out. _________________ Martin O'Neill's Claret And Blue Army |

The album is marvellous, especially 'I don't know any better' which seems custom built for wandering about to in parks on Winter mornings.
I wish I could do that.
Hats off, Martin. |

It was a quiet shift tonight so I had it on in the office.
Bloody marvellous! ...Fingertip saint is the Boos revisted, if it had Sice guesting it'd be there.
Those first three tracks kick big botty!
Jerusalem with Akira the don is awesome.
An idea for promoting it, other than us talking about it elsewhere, might be to knock up some banners that those with websites (or myspaces or whatever) can stick up to direct people here. Mentioning the fact it's free will probably work.
Thanks bc, good work

Again the more you listen the better it gets like all great wines it matures for a fuller taste over time. My fave is "I dont know any better" but theres a lot to enjoy "European Man " is great "I hug all my friends and I drink till Im sick" I can relate to that. "Jerusalem" is awesome. "Ocean" reminds me of mercury rev crossed with giant steps era boos. "Punk Rock" builds then kicks butt. "Finger tip saint" is a typical fuzzed up captain opener.
I am most listening to distractions preparing dinner for myself and gf in the evenings after work with a nice glass of red wine.
Thanks Martin for giving this away for free. You are one of lifes true gents.

Martin,
It's brilliant. I don't know any better is up there with the best. Hope the freebie bit achieves your goal- if there was any justice (which of course there isn't ) it would already be happening. In the meantime however we say thank you form the music for giving it to me etc etc.
Look forward to the next blog installment....

the frustrating this is that an artist works on an album for months and months and then it's out and you get some feedback and reaction, but next week there's another new album out to talk about. being as Martin was so nice and gave this one to us, I wonder if he would mind if we made copies and "distributed" them to friends (just the clever ones). It seems like it would be in the spirit of the album to spread it around a bit. |
