oh, and have you seen Mary and Ians kid yet? Mary seems to have off vanished.

and..... Are you (like me) up at 5am writing or does it come anytime of day?

will you come and visit my missus (Her name's Charlie and she's a fan of your work too) in Harlow Hospital (She's got a stomach illness, which is why i missed the Camden gig) and play a short set of Wishing I Was Skinny, Where Is My Head? and Thinking Of Ways among others?. Go on, it'd be very Cliff Richard!

Can I book you to play the Harlow Square (I sometimes promote shows there)?

What's your favourite fairytale?

Ahoy Cap'n!

What are your plans for the future? When will the next tour be and what will be your next release? Are you going to be doing another remix for the new SFA album's DVD?
Oh yeah, and do you have any words of wisdom to cheer us all up? Very Happy

Melz.

"I wanna be touchdown Jesus", what does that mean? (I don't know the rest of the lyrics so I can't connect the dots)

And if we're allowed other question, non lyric ones:

- Have you ever thought of writing a book?

- Does it matter to you if people listen to your music 30 years from now?

- What do you think of Gore Vidal?

Love and Peace

Are your lyrics as (painfully) personal as they seem or do you imagine a scenario and write around it?

There are times when you seem to have laid your most personal relationships/problems/failures before us in your songs, so I wondered how much was 'fiction'.

hi y'all. sorry i've been a bit quiet lately - ripped the ligaments in my left knee and spent the last month on fully paid sick leave. Upside is being paid to stay at home and watch er, grange hill, starsky and hutch and all manner of films, downside is no internet. Anyway, I've a month and a bit of postings to catch up on, so can I use them all up in one go? Here goes:

1) I'm always amazed by the structure of Wake Up! The first song ("I can't sleep with you there by my side"), the middle song ("I never wanted anything but you alone / But I miss the place that I love / It's not good enough by phone") and the last song ("If I were much wiser / Maybe I'd realise / That it's not where you are / It's who your with") - all this seems like a complete cycle from an acknowledgment of the importance of people to a realisation of the importance of places to a final resolution of the importance of people. Is this deliberate or have I listened to this album fucked on too many occasions?

2) Slightly related, is Wilder something of a pre-emptive apology to criticisms that Wake Up! was the Boo Radleys selling out? I always think it works on two levels: "Maybe I would be sorry / But I need to find out / I know you don't understand / I can't blame you for that / But maybe it's brighter down there / Maybe it's wilder" - is this you explaining the album, as if to say that you knew it would turn some early fans off, but realising your pop dreams to the full (smash hits, top of the pops and all) was something you had to do to see what it was like?

3)Do you see Corporation Man / Monkey Beer as two songs or one long piece of music telling the story of an idealist being broken down by commercialism in modern society? I always think the "I don't wanna lecture" of CM goes with the endless chanting of "Monkey Beer, Monkey Beer", with the narrator having become the very thing he hated originally, broken down by having succumbed to the corporate world, symbolised by the shooting of the monkey off the branch.

4) Was Corporation Man in anyway influenced by that bloody great blood 'fun'pub the Corporation that towers over the Canton Hotel? And also the M-I-L-L-E-N-N-I-U-M of monumets - anything to do with the huge lettering on that clock on the corner that looms over Archway?

5) What are your views of Jo Meek? I can't help seeing a similarity between some of his work and some of yours: Michael Cox's 'Stand Up' has an almost identical chorus to 'Stand Up and Fight', while the tune to 'Canton Hotel' follows Mike Berry and the Outlaws' 'Don't You Think It's Time' really closely. Are you aware of that? And, slightly related, on what grounds did Bacharach sue you for Find the Answer Within? Also, what is the Curtis Mayfield sample in 'Adieu Clo Clo' - I've listened to the two side by side and can't hear it anywhere.

6) Again related, who is Clo Clo? (Sorry if this is me being ignorant?) And also Philip Morris - surely not the tobacco baron satanist? If so, please explain the line.

7) Almost exactly 10 years on from the completion of Giant Steps, what are your views on it? Are you disappointed it is now neglected by even those who lauded as a classic at the time?

8) "It's a long way to find / you've wasted half your life" - you don't really think you have wasted half your life do you? If so, which bits?

9) I've seen Brave Captain live on a number of occasions but never as a DJ. Any plans for further DJ sets? Also, Wichita once ran a competition to win a CD of one of the sets - is there any way of getting hold of this or anything similar?

Right, I'll leave you alone now. Oh, and thanks so much for the downloads. You're a generous man.
