saw sfa last night and good to see a more random set than the last few times i saw them. i think it's worth going just for receptacle for the respectable, the last two minutes of that are amazing!

also bobby boo was drumming for the support act, jim noir.

octOber

WINner Maps/Ulrich Schnauss @ Thekla

As good as gigs get, Maps have got better and Ulrich was perfect support. That and the fact that editors playing close by restriced the crowd so that it was only 2/3 full made it great - enough of a crowd to make it feel busy but enough room for me n mrs ttlc 2 dance.

RUNNER UP

The Whip nowt more to add, they are current faves and getting to see them with the not quite as good but v entertaining Robots in Disguise was a pretty good result.

Forgot to mention Beirut - that was a sound gig to, frontman was pretty funny and so hard to describe 'em. They sounded most like 3mustaphas3 to me but that ain't an entirely spot on comparison.

Animal Collective were pretty far out there. Trancey and rhythmic, they have foregone guitars and had a synth/drum/sequencer set-up instead. Pretty pyschedelic is all I can say. The sound was amazing. Modeselektor was a hanging out of the walls apeshit pill-fest. Good also

My gig of the month: 'A Classic Education' in Carpi, Italy. They're Italian and are brilliant. My band toured with them and they have grown into one of my favorite new bands, easily, can't wait until they come over to play in England next (in December hopefully)...

Unfortunately the gig of the month for me was Led Zeppelin. It was nearly ruined by the appearance of Foreigner, but there you are. Sorry.

Radiohead live are just all kinds of awesome. The only stadium band I know of that can throw such a sheer variety of tunes at you and it all sound fantastic, Highlights were Myxamatosis, Optimistic, Idioteque, 2+2=5, Fake Plastic Tree's and The Pyramid song.

i 'ad a pretty perfect week last week...

Tokyo Police Club/Mobius Band @ Thekla - fantastic, TPC now do a longer tunier set and are only rivalled by the walkmen in their strokesesque genius. Mobius indie pop with lovely synth layers was a great support slot surprise

Twilight Sad @ Brudenell Leeds - working mans clubs as venues are ace and at £2 a pint, had i not been driving Sad acer still. and i still love the twilights musical and lyrical intensity. in a couple of years time they will be the biggest cult following band on the planet. possibley. or possibley not. Smile

Longcut/Day for Airstrikes/Mechanical Owl Manchester Deaf Institute - Ace ace ace venue, DayFor were splendid and slilghtly mogwai, Mechanical Owl started off as ace Smog type stuff but did meander into meaningless indie toward the end, longcut fucking magic as ever and the new rave infused guitar indie is incredible. A rarely innovative band!

MY BLOODY VALENTINE CAMDEN ROUNDHOUSE - FUCKING FUCKING LOUD ONLY LEFTFIELD HAVE EVER COME AS CLOSE TO DESTROYING MY HEARING. SOUND WAS ACE AND WELL MIXED BUT WHILST HOLOCAUST WAS AN INCREDIBLE EAR SPLITTING EXPERIENCE IT WAS ALSO A BIT DULL BUT WTF ME N FORBES LASTED IT TO THE SUPER SONIC END!

Took 3 days to get my hearing back though!

Needed a week off after MBV.... Quite happy to wait to OP at the Louis on Thursday!

Primal Scream and Neil Young at Hop Farm yesterday.

2nd last song I'd never heard. For first 5 minutes I was impressed. For the next 5 minutes I was getting bored. The next five minutes I was laughing my head off and by the time it ended after something like 25 minutes I thought it was utter genius! My girlfriend disagreed Laughing

Agreed - I saw them last night in Nottingham. Fantastic stuff. Hope the album lives up to the live sound...

I just saw Radiohead at Werchter and they were amazing... but the gig of the month for me has to go to Sigur Ros at the Westminster Methodist Church in London... they're incredible, one of the best gigs I've ever seen. The set order was perfect, the atmosphere was amazing and the songs are beautiful. There was even confetti cannons...
