be my baby covered by glasvegas.
earsplittingly awesome at stoke sugarmill last nite, and a top song to go out on. covered perfectly by 'em. |
I really don't get Glasvegas, they just seem like dull ploddy rock to me. Everyone else seems to love them though so it's very possible that I'm wrong. Alan McGee said their the best Scottish band ever and compared them to Elvis or something similarly outlandish. |

"THEBLOKEBEHINDME" in Stoke said pretty much what John said but added they were a bit too shoegazey as well.
i love glasvegas. I think their songs have lots of beautiful layers to them and some of the chords remind me of bands like the Cocteau Twins even if nothing else in their songs does. They've released 3 singles (Go Square Go, Daddy's Gone and Its My Own Cheating Heart), the third of which is my favourite though their best track IMO is "Geraldine" which if i'd been put on a desert island and had to choose one track from 2007 that could be allowed to be played on a solar powered 1 track mp3 player would've been it. Its majestic, epic, great lyric and an incredible vocal.
I'd really struggle to compare them but can see the Elvis thing 'cos of the singers shades/clobber and there is a slight 50s rock n roll sound to 'em. They also look a bit like Jesus & Mary Chain and the fact they've only got an 8 track set adds a bit to this. Though they are nowt like Oasis I can see why McGhee had an Oasis moment when he saw them.
One day i'll get me usp turntable working again and up load all the singles and b's, i'll let you know if i do. in the meantime they are off to the states to record an album and i'd recommend seeing them if they do metro or somewhere that won't involve you flying to.
todays tune:

I was the bloke stood behind you. I also tried to nick your wallet but I failed so had to make do with slagging off the band.
Tune of the day is Out of Reaches by Stephen Malkmus off his all new mature and grown up album which I didn't like at first but now I do. I'm such a fickle man. |

While we're still discussing SFA, tune of the day/week/month for me is "I Told Her On Alderaan" by Neon Neon.
The whole album's up on their Myspace now. Sounds stunning so far: http://www.myspace.com/neonx2 _________________ "It's too beautiful to stay inside..." |

Hmm.. I hadn't even heard of Neon Neon until now, nice one.
Some of the tracks sound alright though, I'll listen to the other tunes later and might even buy the album if I can ever find it in this faraway land.

Wonderful Excuse by The Family Cat.
Not heard for years - since I taped if off the Evening Session and Steve Lamacq talked over the end of it. Whatever happened to all my C90s? _________________ Scattershot Writing: www.jameseverington.blogspot.com |

great great tune.
forbes can fill you in on where the cat are now as he bumps into one of them at fortress home park from time to time, one sad story was the masters are lost and there'll be no best of cd... so luckily i've managed to get golden book and furthest from the sun on cd but getting tell 'em we're surfin is nigh on impossible... so i'll have to upload that on cd if i can ever take six months off to upload my vinyl!
if you do want/need a copy of it on cd pm me. _________________ Britain... It's not that Great! |

What timing my dear TTLC...
Saw Tim Cat at Argyle as Paddy Kenny was doing his usual save everything that comes his way schtick that he does every time v us. I hate him with a passion at those times, otherwise the tubby maniac is my fave keeper in the country. We (Tim not Kenny) were wearing the same style hats! He (still) looks more of a pop star than me, and ever will do. There is a rumour that they could support Carter this year, but it is an off chance, not a definite. Personal differences to be put aside reading between the lines.
Tis true bout the mastertapes which is shite cos I need Steamroller etc for my mp3 (hint, hint)
TOTD:
(1) Rodney Allen - Cupid's Bow
The Bristol version of Billy Bragg's Saturday Boy
(2) Apple Moths - Miserable Town
(3) They Go Boom!! - Missing Person
Slices of pure 80's indie with cheap sax and jangly guitars (thanks to the good person on the WSC site for putting up shit loads of this kinda stuff) _________________ Be sad, be happy and be wise |

if only you'd have succeeded in nicking it then you could have been sitting on a million pound plus winning lotto ticket... could have but wouldn't have. next time just ask me for it, i have recent wallet losing history at gigs so i'd rather it ended up in yer hands than some brixton academy wallet raiding bouncer.
oh and back to the family cat - can i keep off that topic? no! - tell em we're surfin is available in mint condition for £99 on amazon marketplace - the seller is called John Mc _________________ Britain... It's not that Great! |
