Just listening to The Hold Steady now for the first time. They sound a lot like Afghan Whigs to me - therefore my AoTD is Black Love by Afghan Whigs.

Steadman from Five Star has just been on Newsnight talking about Michael Jackson. That's a sentence that I never thought I'd get to type.

Tune of the day: One Day by The Juan MacLean. What a lovely album it is.

Goin' Down by the Monkees.

I obviously have heard it before, as I've had the CD years, but when shuffle picked it out for me to listen to on the bus this morning I had no idea who it was by at first, and it sounded ace.

'Pandemonium' from the new Pet Shop Boys album is absolutely brilliant, and my choice for today's TotD.

Picking my TotD from Martin's new album would have been too obvious, so my choice is 'Nelligan Guts' by The Mighty Stef... just to make disco happy and make him stop lurking. I know he can't resist commenting on this. Twisted Evil

Seriously though, it's a top track from an excellent album, you should all check it out... as soon as you've first bought and listened to "Ye Gods", of course. Razz

Since Tommy BOO read my mind and chose my TotD on Sunday, I'll pick 'Reclaim the Night' by former Dawn Parade frontman Greg McDonald:

(Ye Gods' TotD: 'Orpheus Lament' Wink )

Pandemonium is wonderful (as is the whole PSB album) but surely the following track "The way it used to be" is even better?

TOTD for tomorrow!

My tune of the day (or more like tune of the night?) is 'Knife' by Grizzly Bear. The song is very strange, and the video is - if that's even possible - even stranger.

I'm not sure if I can sleep after this.

I'm not sure if I can sleep ever again.

I like it. Smile

As an alternative extra TOTD, Radiohead have a (for charity) song released today, in memory of Harry Patch. The lyrics are mainly his words.

http://www.radiohead.com/deadairspace/

"Irrespective of the uniforms we wore, we were all victims".

saw arctic monkeys last night and they played many new songs of which one called 'cornerstone' really stood out and that for me is the tune of the day.
