What a great football day this has been (so far)!

Azerbaijan 1 - 2 Finland Smile
Even though Finland's chances of qualifying from the Group 9 are very minimal, it's always good to win those international games, and our next qualification group for WC2006 should be easier if we reach the third place in Group 9 now!

Chesterfield 0 - 2 Barnsley Very Happy
Barnsley are on the top of the Division Two again!! Six matches unbeaten now, and we finally have the resources to buy a new player!

And last, but certainly not least, my favourite footballer Janne Salli (ex-Barnsley player and Finnish international) has made his comeback to professional football, after a two year long injury nightmare! Surprised Salli just signed a one year contract with the current Finnish number one team FC Haka. Smile

I think I've recovered from the shock already... time for a match report!

WALES 1 - 1 FINLAND
Simon Davies 1-0 3 min.
Jason Koumas red card 64 min.
Mikael Forssell 1-1 80 min.

Finland needed to win Wales at least with 2 goals to keep the dream alive. But just after three minutes of the game, the dream was already crashed. Simon Davies got a good high pass from Ryan Giggs, took the ball down with his left arm ran past Sami Hyypiä and Hannu Tihinen, and scored an easy goal. The linesman's flag was up, he noticed the handball, but the bloody Spanish referee said it was a goal!

PASS! RUN! SHOOT! SCORE! Sky-y-y-y-Skywalker! Skywalker...

Wales changed their tactics to 10 men defense, and Finland took the control of the game for the next 87 minutes. But it was just like watching Liverpool... They passed the ball in the midfield, then tried to play a long ball for Mikael Owen... Oops, I mean Forssell of course! There were a couple of good runs by Joonas Kolkka on the left side, and he managed to create a couple of good chances, but our finishing was terrible, as usually.

The second half was completely ours, Wales didn't have a chance.
John "Moaner" Hartson was a fucking disgrace. A real shame for Wales really! I think he tries to look too much like Sice, but he's not nearly as cool as Sice! He just moans all the time, I hate him. Just like Nathan "Filmstar" Blake... He's not much better!

64 minutes played, Jason Koumas made a stupid tackle on Mikael Forssell. Second yellow card, he was sent off. Koumas tried to cheat the referee though, I bet that the poor Spanish guy had lost his notebook, because it took a while from him to realise that it was Koumas' second yellow card.

Almost right after that, Wales had a really good chance to score from a free kick. But Ryan Giggs' (?) free kick was superbly saved by Antti Niemi.

After that it was Finland's game again. Between 70th and 80th minutes, Finland created 6 great chances to score, but Wales goalie Paul Jones had a really good day. Finally, on 80th minute, Mikael Forssell scored, but I knew it was too late.

Joonas Kolkka had another great chance to score two minutes after that, but the shot was blocked by Wales defenders. Time was running out, and Finnish players desperately tried to score. They never stopped fighting, but they would have needed another 90 minutes to score 2 more goals. Finland were good, but not good enough.

The Spanish referee blowed his whistle for the one last time, the big dream was over. Sad Again. Finland has never played in the Euro Cup or in the World Cup. Well, maybe in World Cup 2006 then...

Now I just hope that Wales beat Italy, and some small country wins the Euro Cup. Super Furry Wales have been great, they should do well, they deserve it!

Could someone tell me the lyrics for the song "Skywalker"?
It's a great song, I always listen to it when I'm writing my match reports. Very Happy

"Pass! Run! Shoot! Score! You can't afford..... (what?) "

"This guy will always be behind/beyond you... ??"

"Sky-sky-y-y-y-y... Skywalker... Skywalker!"

Hey it was anything but a bad day for us Plymouth girls and boys...

Winning with a goal in injury time is always enjoyable. Scoring 2 inside the last 10 minutes to turn it around raises that excitement a notch and to do it against our friends from Lootown is something else again.
The noise, the celebrations, the hugging, the pinching and the ineveitable gestures to the away end were all there and all magnified thanks to events over recent seasons. The only low point was that Joe Kinnear wasn't suffering aplopexy (sp?) in his dugout.

Oh and we were shite for 70 minutes but we won't dwell on that...

Next up at home ..... Barnsley Confused

'tis good to be an Argyle boy (or girl) at the moment. I've not seen us play well this season but we continue to pick up the points so maybe my play-off aspirations aren't unrealistic. Looking forward to going to Wrexham Sat (only my 2nd trip there, certainly can't be as spooky and as "stick to the road lads" as my last one there, the great 3-0 midweek win of 1994). Hope we can get all the points but Larrieu less its gonna be hard.

Still top result against the lootown lot, shame only 200 of them were there to witness it and, like you say, shame more so that bfj was elsewhere too,

It's a shame the violence on Saturday marred what has been a terrific week for us Blades.

We bounced back so well from the defeat at Forrest to win two games, scoring 5 in each, and go second!

Like a say though, very much diluted by the violence. Christ it's only a game for fucks sake....
