(sadly, not covers of Boo songs... or, at least, there's none that I can think of. which is mad.)

nominate which you think is best, the original, or the Boos / BC version:

Boo Radleys:
1. One Of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later) by Bob Dylan
2. Alone Again Or by Love
3. True Faith (/Boo Faith!) by New Order
4. There She Goes by The La's
5. Zoom by Fat Larry's Band
6. The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
7. 4st 7lb by Manic Street Preachers
8. Tomorrow by Paul Williams
Bravecaptain:
9. Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan

for me:
the originals win for #s 3, 4, 7 and 9
the covers win for # 5, 6 and 8
I'm undecided about #s 1 and 2 (tho I like the Boos' version of #1)

and while I'm at it, does anyone know if there are any other songs that were covered? or even if anyone's covered a Boos song?!

The cover of The Queen Is Dead is very good, probably the best cover of the smiths I ever heard but hey, HEY! not better than the original.

I would've but my knowledge of 'indie wank' music is limited...hahaha...sorry...seriously, discussions like 'which song is your fave' bore me after I've liked a band for two months.

Love and Peace

Don't quit on us Disco!

I never repied cos I can't think of any other songs The Boo's/Martin covered that's all.

If we were talking other bands covering stuff then I think Afghan Whigs covering TLC's "Creep" is one of the greatest things I've ever ever heard

Kinks

hmmm, but it's a 'which song is your fave' with a twist, not the completely boring variety of old

I just put all the originals and all the covers onto a CD together, y'see (yes, I had nothing better to do at the time)... so I was wondering what people thought

some of the originals I'd never heard before, and it changed my previously held view that almost all Boos covers weren't as good as the original version

nah, don't think I have it in me to quit, Kinks Rolling Eyes

wasn't actually looking for good covers by others of other bands' songs, but if you've got good ones, no harm in saying (despite my general dislike of the current karaoke culture)

don't think I've ever heard any Afghan Whigs... is it better than The Bluetones' cover of Waterfalls? Confused

must hear it so... Creep was probably the only other TLC song I didn't dislike

and for anyone who's been living on Mars, no, it wasn't a cover of the Radiohead song of the same name... tho if you were living on Mars, you wouldn't know the Radiohead song either... unless they put a Radiohead CD into the shuttle instead of the Blur one by mistake... or you're a subterranean homesick alien, and heard about Radiohead because of their song called that.

woah, what a load of waffle, it's no wonder people rarely reply. I'm outta here. beam me up, spotty.

I'd love to help you out there but it was on a vinyl single, and my folks don't have a record player no more.... Rolling Eyes

Speaking of good covers, I remember listening to John Peel a few years ago and heard some unknown band doing a version of the Smashing Pumpkins song "1979" and I absolutely loved it. The only way I could describe it is that it did for "1979" what "Boo! Faith" did for "True Faith". If that makes sense.

Never found out who the band was though. Shame. Sad

And while I'm here...

1. One Of Us Must Know (Sooner Or Later) by Bob Dylan
The Boo cover wins for me.

2. Alone Again Or by Love
The Boo Radleys version, all the way! If I was a DJ though, I'd mix them together so that the first verse of the original played, then The Boo Radleys crank up the volume and blow everyone away with the second verse! But I guess that's why I'm not a DJ. Wink

3. True Faith (/Boo Faith!) by New Order
The original is one of my favourite songs ever, but I do love the Boo version all the same.

4. There She Goes by The La's
Both are good. Since they are so similar, I won't compare.

5. Zoom by Fat Larry's Band
Boo Radleys. Beautiful.

6. The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Never heard the Smiths version (shame on me) so I can't compare.

7. 4st 7lb by Manic Street Preachers
Again, I love both versions. Hmmmmm, can't decide.

8. Tomorrow by Paul Williams
Boo Radleys.

9. Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
I prefer the original.
