Bad bad bad. I know it's joked about that I "used" to be a Reds fan. However, they have always remained close to my heart and for this to happen really does upset me.

ahh fuck. I'm really, really upset about this.

Anyone know of any petitions, actions taking place? John?

Feel a bit helpless at the minute.

I've not heard about any protests, I suppose if it happened during the season then there might be protests at the games but that can't happen now. I wrote to David Moores, Dave W did the same, I've not heard anything back though. To be honest all of my mates who support Liverpool either:

1. Don't know the Thai PM's background or
2. Aren't bothered about it or
3. Are much more concerned about who the new manager will be and whether Owen will stay

The press coverage of the deal has hardly mentioned the Shinawatra's (spelling?) background and if they did it was always just a sentence about "Human Rights abuses" without any detail so I'm not surprised most fans don't know whats going on. I suppose this ties with the thread about the dumbing down of the press.

I don't know what to do, as I've said before supporting a club isn't just something you can suddenly turn off. You stick with your club through the bad times and that makes the good times better. But this isn't just another dodgy manager or signing. Everytime I go to the match or buy a shirt or club magazine then money will be going directly or indirectly to help the Thai Prime Minister. And Liverpool FC have played such a big part in my life that is horrible to think that I can't go on supporting them. I honestly didn't think it would come to this, I believed that the deal would break down over the merchandising rights or the seats on the board.

Its a big mess and I don't know what to do.

There may still be hope:

http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,1225085,00.html

Surely there should be rules stopping politicians from owning football clubs. Football is not meant to be involved with politics, Robbie Fowler got fined for wearing a T Shirt supporting the sacked dockers a few years ago. By the same logic politicians shouldn't be able to buy clubs to further their policitical careers.

Benitez is the next manager of Liverpool.

According to a guy on Radio 5.

He wants to, they want to.

Blimey, have to have a think about this.

Tommy, in Finland is the English FA Cup Final on TV? In the build up to the game here there's always foreign players saying how the English FA Cup is a big thing in their country and they grew up watching it and dreamed of playing in it. I'd really like to believe it true, please tell me that the whole of Finland came to a stand still on Saturday as the nation sat down to watch Man U vs Millwall.

Well, like I already said, football isn't a very big game in Finland, so the whole country wasn't watching the FA Cup final last weekend. They hardly ever show matches, especially foreign ones, on national TV channels (the free ones), but they've shown the FA Cup final for years now. No one ever talks about Finnish football here, I don't even know anyone who really supports some Finnish club... all my friends and I have British favourite teams. That's actually quite sad, isn't it? Tells a lot about the state of Finnish football at least...
British footie on telly on Saturday afternoon has been some kind of a tradition for many years actually. A long time ago they used to show Italian Serie A, but not many people watched it, so they changed back to English Premier League. And when the televising rights of Premier League went for some cable channels (Canal+), they started to show Scottish Premier League (!!!) and some time after that English Division One.
Now they haven't shown football for ages... I think they had the rights to show matches every weekend, but they decided to show something more interesting like ballet or ski jumping or ice hockey instead.
At least they still show Champions League, but I don't like the new format of it... Too many boring matches, the old cup competition would be much more interesting in my opinion!

But believe me John, the football culture in Finland is nothing compared to Britain. No one really cares about football here, except for some silly people like me. My friends who support Liverpool or Man United or Arsenal or Chelsea or Newcastle or Real Madrid or Barcelona etc etc... they've never actually seen them play, except on telly.
That's something I really would like to change... I have a dream - I want to see big crowds in Finnish football matches, and it would be a really big thing for me to see Finland in the World Cup one day. You know, even though my favourite club is English, I can't say that I really support the national team of England.

I'm off to watch the Champions League final now.

AS Monaco V FC Porto

I'll be supporting Monaco, I think. Because of Fernando Morientes who's a terrific player, I've always liked him. I just loved it how he scored the important goals that knocked Real Madrid (his old club) off the competition!
Anyway, I don't really care, even if Porto win the match I won't be crying tonight. In fact I can't say that I'm excited about the final at all. I think that the match already started five minutes ago actually. Haha. Rolling Eyes I'd better stop posting this nonsense then...

Come on Monaco!!

Shit. Porto are winning 1-0 already, what a crap match so far but still so much better than the two other cup finals I've seen this season (FA Cup and UEFA Cup).

not sure this is true. he's apparently said he's happy at valencia. the story is from the echo. it seemed pretty sure that he was the board's choice and that he'd take. it didn't have any source for this view, though. we shall see...

can't immediately see why someone that's just won the spanish league and uefa cup would want to come to lfc, but we can but hope. does anyone know what o'neill has done to be completely out of the picture? the echo said "even the likes of martin o'neill and david o'leary found theire way onto the shortlist" as though this was a ridiculous prospect, whereas a few weeks (days?) ago he was the favourite.

with the thai deal - at least nothing is happening immediately, so there is time for the fans to get their act together and make a protest. you'd think that if the thais are doing a "due diligence" exercise to check the validity of lfc for investment, the club should be doing the same on the investors - and then telling them to sling their hook elsewhere.

i'm going to contact ilsa, the independent supporters' association to see whether they know of any petitions etc that are being organised. they have provided good information about the implications of the takeover proposals (check www.ilsa.org.uk ) so hopefully they're in the know about any fans' actions against...

and congrats on your 100th "official" post martin!

FC Porto won 3-0. Bugger.

I can't see Benitez going to Liverpool either, he's been really great at Valencia and the fans love him. But anything can happen of course...

And yes, congratulations for your 100th official post, Martin Clarrt.

houllier quotes from his liverpool days courtesy of football365.com

* "Too many players were trying to score or create a goal."

* "It was not a mistake, it was a blunder."

* We scored 127 goals - the third highest total in the club's history. Although, if you believe everything you read in the papers, 126 probably came from a breakaway from the edge of our penalty area. The other one was probably an own goal."

* "You can't say my team aren't winners. They've proved that by finishing fourth, third and second in the last three years."

* "Our job is to make the fans happy. When we win, 45,000 people go home happy. When we lose, it not only affects them, it affects their cats."

* "This team have already written history but they are destined for greatness and will achieve much higher performances."

* "We have a community feeling; the groundsman has a meal with the pros."

* On Paul Ince: "I notice a former captain of ours said recently that this squad is so good that we don’t need a manager. I took this as a great compliment. He must have changed his mind since leaving as he said at the time that Phil Thompson and I would drag the club down. On that point I suppose he was right - we dragged the club down to Cardiff three times in the last 10 months."

* "I have a strong belief that this team will win the title. I think they believe that themselves."

* In January 2003: "At some stage, the club will win the title and win the Champions League under me. That's for sure."

* In April 2004: "I believe the team will grow and at some stage we will win the title."

* And on Saturday: "I am 100% certain I will be at Liverpool next season."

nice one clart

That was a dull European Cup final. The best thing about it was the Matrix style camera work they used when replaying the goals and when they cut to the camera above the centre circle which made it look like a game of "Sensible Soccer".
