Is it crap? I hope not, I'm going to see them on Saturday. To be honest I've lost interest in them but my girlfriend fancies Tim Burgess so I've got no choice! |

I'd say career wise it's comparable with Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants.
There is maybe one fantastic tune on there and lot's of average ones.
I'm massively disappointed. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

I thought the charlatans were incapable of making a bad album these days. Their last few i have really enjoyed. I guess they are getting on though. I heard the Tim Burgess solo album was utter shite but never got to hear any of it. _________________ Martin O'Neill's Claret And Blue Army |

I am absolutely amazed that this album is the follow up to Wonderland. That album seemed to have so much confidence running right through it.
This album, and I've only heard it the once, seems to have "Paul Weller" running through it. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

surely you need to listen to it more than once to form a solid opinion? |

Well the point is, that one single listen has put me off wanting to give it another go.
I shall of course but not til tomorrow. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

I bought "Wonderland" ages ago but I've only listened to it once. I think it was quite decent actually, don't know why I forgot it.
I think I'm going to listen to it tonight. _________________

That Charlatans album seems to have come out with a bit of a whimper, I've not heard the single played anywhere and there doesn't seem to be much publicity about it. Tim Burgess seems to have a decent life these days though, living in LA and releasing albums when he feels like it. |

I bought "Tellin' Stories" yesterday. Haven't listened to it yet, but I must say that it has one of the worst album covers ever. 'Awful' isn't enough to describe it.
I think I could give it a listen now though. _________________

I've now listened to
Tellin' Stories
as well, and it's the best Charlatans album I've heard so far. (I have
Wonderland
,
Tellin' Stories
and
Between 10th and 11th
)
With No Shoes
and
Tellin' Stories
are good tunes, and
One To Another
sounds nice and happy, but the others are nothing too spectacular, although none of them are awful either. But just like all the Charlatans albums I have,
Tellin' Stories
gets much too boring in the end as well - all the songs sound too similar after all.
All those three albums have truly awful album covers though.

I my humble opinion if you want to listen to a solid album by the charlatans the get 'us and us only'. Otherwise get 'meltin pot' which is their best of. Every song on that is ace. The Charlatans are definately a singles band who have managed to make some good albums along the way. A great live band too. _________________ Martin O'Neill's Claret And Blue Army |
