apart from the obvious (i.e. the surname), why are The White Stripes called The White Stripes?
have they ever said where the Stripe bit came from?
Alluding to Adidas, despite looking like something out of a Gap advert?

haha... well, I agree with that, but then, what's that got to do with what they're called?
am I stupid?
anyway... I think I discovered the REAL reason why on the night of the recent Brit Awards* 
(*which I wasn't watching, honest)
yes, in the video of their acceptance speech, for whatever crappy 'award' they were given, Meg was introduced - as she would be - as "Meg White"
only... the way Meg White was said... sounded suspiciously like "Mogwai"
now, if you think about it, a Mogwai is a furry creature from a film called 'Gremlins'... and who was the Mogwai-turned-evil Gremlin in that film?
yep, the one called Stripe!... who was known as Stripe for... the WHITE STRIPE he had!!
so, er, in conclusion, I think all this means, is that The White Stripes are the evil gremlin in the world of music!?! 
well, one of them, anyway
