Around 1986 I formed a band with my mates. We used to play bad AC/DC and Iron Maiden covers in someone's garage.
We were variously called:
Terry & June & The Pyjama Bottom Band
Genghis Khan & The Electric Banana Syndrome
Sillhouette

I was later in a band with an egotistical guitarist. I christened the band John Smith's Smith (Featuring John Smith) - The name has been changed to protect the guilty!

There are lots of old Prog Rock bands with mad names, Blodwyn Pig springs to mind and perhaps King Crimson, you could while away some hours researching them!

Suzanne Vega isn't really a band, nor is Nasty Suicide!
You could start a new thread of Ridiculous Names Of People in Bands, though. Glam rock bands are a good place to start! Nikki Sixx, Rikki Rokket, Rocky Shades..I could go on. See also Bez, Fish, Ol' Dirty Bastard. There was Raven & Flood in Killing Joke, Bona & The Edge in U2 and we're not even out of the 80's yet!

Yeah Ok! Embarassed

Try:
John Otway & Wild Willy Barrett
Horse (a female solo artist)
Rhino Bucket (Australian AC/DC Clones)
and who can forget "Symbol Man" aka "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince"

These are just ridiculous rather than cool, aren't they!

We've all had a drink....
I'll get me coat!!!! Rolling Eyes

Oasis and Ash are boring names in my opinion.
And Blur too.
You think that The Charlatans is such a cool name that you've misspelled it. Rolling Eyes

Laughing Haha, no...
I just thought that someone would mention Oasis sooner or later, but I honestly think that it's quite a boring name. OK, it sounds quite cool when pronounced, but still it's not unique enough, if you saw a list of thousand band names, you wouldn't think that Oasis is very interesting compared to the others. Ash is only a little better than an average band name because it's so short.

I agree with Tommy, Ash is a boring name for a band...it's a nice word but a boring band name.

The Boo Radleys obviously, if nothing for the fact that it makes you read the book and watch the movie, which are both great.

But when you speak of name...The Strokes...though I would've preferred Strokes alone...it's touching someone, it's a form of heart attack...BUT, the greatest part, the band members' names:

Julian Casablancas
Fabrizio Moretti
Nikolai Fraiture
Nick Valensi
Albert Hammond Jnr

It's unbelieveble.

Also, Phoenix's bassist is named Deck d'Arcy, which I find pretty cool...I think his actual name is Declan [dékla:n]...you know it if you know French, anyway, that is also beautiful.

Most bands have fairly silly or boring names really. L&P

To be honest Setareh, I find the name The Strokes pretty boring as well. Just like all the other band names that follow the same rule.

Boring band name rule 1:
The + X + s
(where 'X' is one random English word, and -s makes it a plural)

The Thrills
The Turtles
The Hives
The Byrds
The Charlatans
The Kinks
The Connells
The Strokes
The Tremeloes
The Beatles
(well, their music has made the word sound a bit magic, but when you think of the name itself, it is actually quite boring)

Boring band name rules 2 & 3:
one word names (without 'the')

'the' + [noun] (non-plural)

Examples:
(rule 2)
Blur
Oasis
Ash
Pulp
Travis

(rule 3)
The Clash
The Crash
The The
The Police

Boring band name rule 4:
over-complicated names, abbreviations

OMD (Orchestral Musical Manoeuvres In The Dark)
R.E.M. (Rapid Eye Movement)
CMX (Cloaca Maxima)

Boring band name rule 5:
names that try to be too cool, meaningless shit
(how come almost all of them are shitty heavy metal bands, haha!)
Moonsorrow
Manowar
Nightwish
Pop Will Eat Itself
Cradle Of Filth
Megadeth

Fuck. Those names really are awful.

Monkees, really good because of the spelling. L&P

P.S. The Strokes is not that great but nice, sleek...it's their individual names that blow you away.

Are they their real names or artist names?

But what about the following names? Can you recognise this cool band?

Huw "Bunf" Bunford
Dafydd "Daf" Ieuan
Gruff Rhys
Guto Pryce
Cian Ciaran
