What about releasing Catweazle with some sleighbells and a kiddies choir overdubbed onto the chorus. It's gotta be a winner.

Here's what it says in the dictionary:
Catweazle - pr. cat-wee-zal
1. Catweazle was a rare tv treat. A very English, unique,
beautifully written, immaculately produced, directed and
acted, atmospheric and highly entertaining series for
children that could be equally enjoyed by adults.
Created and entirely written by the ingenious and
witty Richard Carpenter, it told the story of a wizard
from eleventh century England where the Norman
conquerors reigned supreme. In a bid to escape some
soldiers by casting a spell to make himself fly, he
unwittingly travels forward to the twentieth century.
There, he has to get to grips with modern living in all
its manifestations. Stubborn, crusty, uncompromising,
eccentric, fun and loveable, Catweazle gives the
modern age and its inhabitants a run for its money.
Filmed in two series totaling 26 episodes, it starred
Geoffrey Bayldon who gave a superb performance in
his finest role - one that must have been made for him.
Fine performances too from his young 'sidekicks'
Robin Davies as 'Carrot' and Gary Warren as 'Owl Face'.
There has not been a children's adventure programme
since to equal or rival Catweazle although occasionally
Worzel Gummidge came close. "
2. A song by them fellas from the Wirral, The Boo Radleys, from their first album, which I got off me next door neighbour after swapping him a Levellers record.
"Various flecks of the Boos' incipient talents crop up throughout -- the lovely vocal arrangement on the chorus of "Catweazle" (named after a legendary British TV kids' show character) is a clear sign, though the nuclear-strength guitar distortion Carr ends the song with is as distinct. The drumming, however, would be better suited to a shit, dwarf fronted goth band - Ned Raggett, All Music Guide" |
