Manics are a good example of a band that really lost the plot.
The Holy Bible was Sooooo good too... |
I wouldn't say that actually. I think the later albums are better than the early ones, including the Holy Bible which in my opinion is quite overrated. Not bad at all though... Some of their early songs sound too chaotic. Sometimes it can be a good thing, but not in this case. "Know Your Enemy", "Everything Must Go" and that blue album with
'If You Tolerate This...'
are all excellent. Don't know about this new one yet, I've heard all the songs now and they sound quite different. And they're all quite melancholic. I don't think it's as good as the previous three, but definitely not bad either.
"Gold Against The Soul" was good. Yeah.

Why do the Manics use famous speeches in so many of their songs? It used to be cool once but I think it's just boring now. _________________

most of this album is pretty melancholic
employing chunks of suitably melancholic sounding piano on some of the songs that just seems to make them sound even more boring.
I liked Everything Must Go, their last one less so.
To me these new songs just sound tired and half arsed
not quite a "shitter" I admit,
(I did write that after one listen when I was pissed)
but pretty dull |

they said they wanted to make an album of elegaic pop songs, Springsteen's Nebraska being an example that they liked. It's interesting that you think it's dull though, I find 'I live to fall asleep' really beautiful and uplifting, and 'Glasnost' too. I suppose us Manics fans don't mind sad music! |

I'd just like to say that I am actually a Manics fan, and I've been to see them probably about 6 times (my first gig was Manics actually) - Gold Against The Soul is fantastic, Everything Must Go is fantastic, the recent ones and the first one are OK, but The Holy Bible is sheer genius... They're still better than a lot of bands out there, but it's just that they used to be
so
good, it's a shame they're not now. _________________ http://www.facebook.com/thelostcavalry
