i'd be interested in opinions on the use of naked women on album covers. i was horrified to find that the new Manics album has a blood covered naked model in various poses on the cover and throughout the booklet. thye previoulsy used a painting of a naked woman to great effect on the Holy Bible cover, but this woman is some kind of supermodel figure, skinny, plucked and waxed. as she's covered in blood, i'm interpreting her as the 'life' part of the 'lifeblood' equation but that doesn't work for me, it just looks like arty tittillation.
what does anyone think? |

Well, call me predictable or politically correct, but I think the objectification of women is wrong.
It also annoys me when there's 'unnecessary' nudity in films. Woman lying in bed, breast showing...what is the point? Sometimes it is supposed to indicate something but sometimes it doesn't.

don't women lay in bed with their breast showing then? all the ones I've been out with have. sometimes one looks for something that isn't there. not the manics tho', they've done it to shift units. fucking whores.

I don't know many women who sleep naked on a regular basis. Besides, even if you do, you're usually underneath a blankett of some sort. It was just an example...there is pointless nudity in films.
I think more of you should reply to this thread. I remember about four years ago when I was discussing porn with a bunch of Brits it was like we were from different planets because not one seemed to find anything wrong with porn, while I thought differently.
Wonder if it's the same with nudity...
I sometimes get a feeling that people think sex and nudity is the same thing and so they have a certain mental image of Swedes.

there is pointless nudity in real life. nudity is not porn unless you are a right wing southern born again baptist holy roller. men have always got their arses and chests out in films and ads and videos. i don't like exploitation of women but i don't mind the odd bit of porn, i don't think the two are neccessarily the same thing.

Okay, I did not equate porn and nudity on ANY level. I was talking about cultural differences, just took the example of porn, because I remember the shock I had when the Brits were so okay with porn.
Actually no, men are seldom naked the way women are on film. For starters they're not naked as often, secondly they are not objectified, they are not bodies and only bodies...it happens but not nearly as often as for women. This is a fact, and it's not only male directors who are guilty of it.
By unnecessary nudity I mean that you don't actually need to see it on film. Just like you don't see people using the bathroom in films. It doesn't add anything to the story. The fact that people are not 100% covered in real life is a different story, films are not supposed to show every single aspect of life.

In that case there are a lot of 'unnecessary' scenes in every movie. What makes nudity so special then? It's quite a natural thing after all! What's so bad about boobs?
True, you don't
usually
see people in a toilet in movies, but that's because no one really wants to see that! _________________

What are films supposed to show then? Is there some kind of a rule that I'm not aware of?
What makes nudity such a bad thing that it's not OK to show it?
