Actually, I got two albums for my birthday that I thought
might, just might
be contenders for the honour of 'Bev's albums of 2004' - REM and the Manics.
On 1st listen one was palatable enough but hardly a match for past glories; and one sounds ace and maybe not quite as good as older stuff but still better than most people's stuff by far...
Which way round do y'all think it was? _________________ Scattershot Writing: www.jameseverington.blogspot.com |

Please fill in this questionnaire and post it on the board no later than New Years Eve 2004.
The best three albums I've heard this year are:Kings of Leon, BC and not her best, but the PJ Harvey album (off the top of my head, can't keep up with the kids these days). Nothing has got close to the cardigans last album for me yet, sorry.
The best song I've heard this year is: can't really think of anything, maybe Wolfman or maybe Who The Fuck by PJ Harvey. Thinking on, if live songs count, Love doing AloneAgainOr as it is the DB's of a tune.
The best film I've seen this year is:Not really seen much to be honest. Liked The Football Factory, and I did like Kill Bill, however awaiting ne Scorcese films. That Day after tomorrow or whatever was silly, how did those wolves survive that flood???
The best book I've read this year is:Dennis Wise autobiography. Because it was amusing(to me anyway), probably drivel to others but nevermind. Or actually, no, Porno by Irvine Welsh.
The undoubted king of the breakfast cereal is: Special K with apricots
Which (non-BC) album are you really, really looking forward to being released next year: Can't decide between Mercury Rev or Doves
The best goal I've seen scored this year against Greek opposition in the final minutes of a Champions League game by any player of a Merseyside club is: |
Oh for goodness sake!!! |

with the benefit of hindsight, i shouldn't have shared my thoughts about the estelle record with you. |
Sparky, I've found some people who feel the same way about estelle as you, they don't think its the best single of the year but 48th best ain't bad.

Some do, some don't. But guitar bands don't categorically suck.
Are the Beatles not a guitar band? Are they not the greatest? Yes they are.

Get with the now man, guitar bands are where its at, for the past 5 years NME's album of the year has been a full on guitar album (Rated R, Is This It, A Rush of Blood…, Elephant and Franz Ferdinand). Its like living in the 1950's but without the rationing.
"I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables.
I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars.
I hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that I know"

i'm a guitarist in a band.
i stand by my idiocy.
i actually didn't think y'all would take it so serious lke.
'free' by estelle is fucking ace
as is 'les boo radleys' by the michael drucker experience but then i would say that.
i like guitars, i do. in the same way i like real ale and coal mines.

Dinnae worry, wasn't really taking it seriously. It is true that bands that are trying out new things in music and being a bit different are also often the type of band who are trying out using instruments a bit more diverse that guitars!
Right now though, I'd prefer a pint of real ale...
Actually, I'd prefer anything than being at work... having serious New Year Blues right now, need to start organising things so I can look forward to them!
