i was gonna start a thread like this a couple of days ago, only less organised.....

anyway:

Favourite Albums: (Does It Have to Be Three???)

the 2 BC Ones
Leonard Cohen - Dear Heather
Gomez - Split The Difference (Amazing Live - Catch 'Em If You Can)
Brian Wilson - Smile (Although not as good as everyone bangs on about!)

Favourite Songs:

Well I don't remember favourite songs, but my favourite release is Bright Eyes/Neva Dinova Split E.P. - One Jug Of Wine, Two Vessels. It is absolutely wonderful, and it my must have release of the year.

Favourite Films:

The Motorcycle Diaries & Eternal Sunshine of A Spotless Mind. Though they are the only new films I've seen this year!!

I haven't read any new books, and the best breakfast cereal is probably honey nut cornflakes, although i'm in to my fruit and fibre sort of thing at the moment.

Favourite 2005 releases I'm looking forward to are the 2 bright eyes ones, mercury rev, neva dinova, doves, SFA (hopefully!!), and maybe Flaming Lips will release a new album, I think they've rode the wave of Yoshimi long enough now.

The best three albums I've heard this year are:
AWOBMOLG, A Grand Don't Come For Free and erm….either that DFA Compilation or the Cee-Lo album or the Air one. Lets go for the DFA Compilation.

The best song I've heard this year is:
Weaponise

The best film I've seen this year is:
Eternal Sunshine….was really good.

The best book I've read this year is:
Mmmm….can't think of one particular book, Life of Pi was pretty damn good. Its been a long old year.

The undoubted king of the breakfast cereal is:
Frosties obviously. But I'm on a health kick right now and so am eating Weetabix, its not the same without Tony The Tigers beaming face watching over me at breakfast time though.

Which (non-BC) album are you really, really looking forward to being released next year:
The new Mercury Rev one, I think I said the same this time last year.

The best goal I've seen scored this year against Greek opposition in the final minutes of a Champions League game by any player of a Merseyside club is:
Probably Gerrards on Wednesday night for Liverpool

lyrics of the year anyone?

and now my shape is more defined
disparate parts so intertwined
i don't know why, i don't know why
i'll weaponize my state of mind

and i do not bow down to any flag
a country is just a piece of dirt
and all your flags, your stupid songs
sound like the workings of tiny minds

and i do not want to go to the beach
and burn my skin 'neath skies of fire
my belief hangs by a gossamer thread
i'll weaponize my state of mind

sound better every time i hear 'em!

All Watched Over By Machines Of Loving Grace - bravecaptain
allonewordsmallbee - bravecaptain
The Lost Riots - Hope Of The States

Weaponized - bravecaptain

Think all the films I've seen this year were average

Something by P.J.Tracy (to be edited when I get home and find it). Had The Room by Hubert Selby Jr for a month now, must get around to reading it in time for next years thread Wink

No Added Sugar Alpen

I CANNOT wait for the LCD Soundsystem album. My brother downloaded about 10 tracks for me and to say I'm excited is a serious understatement. In fact I've not been this excited about a band since I heard C'Mon Kids in 96. Or Definitely Maybe in 94. Or Copper Blue in 92.

Can't think of any memorable Sheffield Utd matches this year Sad

Right I'll have to watch Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind now, I really wanted to when it came out but couldn't get anyone to go with me. Sad
Plus it has Kirsten Dunst in it. Excellent.

The album I'm most looking forwad to next year is the new Lemon Jelly album (coming out on DVD with a video for every song!)

Best Albums (I'm taking BCx2 as read):

Joanna Nesom - Voice my take awhile before you like it, but after that, it's awesome all the way...
Secret Machines - okay the 1st track is the best, but the rest are still pretty cool
Bob Dylan Live 1964 - if you already love Bob then no need of an explanation. If you don't then this won't convince you of the folly of your heathen ways.
(& also: Meister, the new Charlatons album, Lara Veirs, Rough Trade Indie Pop Vol1)

Books:
Bob Dylan: Chronicles (yes I'm sad)
David Mitchell - Ghostwritten @ #9 Dream (believe the hype)
William Golding - The Inheritors (the best idea for a story ever?)

Most annoying song that I know is obviously crud but whose chrous worms its way into my head and makes me nod along to it and hence embarass myself in front of my indie-nerd peers: that one by Rachel Stevens that has a chorus that goes "some girls some thing blah lah la"

i'm not taking the piss here, but for me the best single of the year is by estelle, and it is called "1980". they use it on match of the day, which puts it in a category with don henley's that's just the way it is, primal scream's don't fight it feel it and the life of riley by the lightning seeds. i will win a fight against anybody from the board who wants to argue that there has been a better single this year, but only if they are thin and short.

yo..yo..yo..

I grew up in the 1980's
in a 4-bedroom house my family my Grandma
3 or 4 Aunties Uncles and Brothers
in and out of prison daily
at certain times when there was no heat
we stay under covers
there was life like u never seen
Daddy taking extra people in
come dinner time It was tippin' 18
boil a big pot of water and the soap to take a bath
with my face in Olive Oil all my mates used to laugh
And my Cousin's moved out And we all got divided
as i started to get older I seen god providing
I've seen £50 last 3 months solid
I got my first pair of 'Nikes' we were still eating porridge
me and my cousin used to play 'Mel & Kim'
practising dancin' coming down the stairs and ting
I touched Africa and came back darker
knowing myself feeling my roots a little bit harder

[Chorus]
1980 year that God made me
89 i started to get mine
99 i started to write rhymes
come, walk with me baby this were my life
1980 year that God made me
89 i started to get mine
99 i started to write rhymes
come, walk with me reminiscing my life

So then we moved up thought i was the 'Fresh Prince'
'Dynasty' was re-runs and 'Dallas' was faded
with 3 beds this time and 6 kids
still we got a doggy (Does that dog 'ave to bark)
A proper butt is for a pair of 'LA Gear'
he thought it was for taking pictures of his belle's rear,
we started hanging out my jeans got tighter
my weird neighbours set their own house on fire
Church was All day every day and every week
that's where i learned how to sing
hearing that Master Preach
Benediction was all we went for
so we could run home and play 'connect 4'
Mum worked late and we learnt to cook
so i started doing stew pea soup
In the room watching Kung-Fu films
and Cleopatra films.....

[ Repeat Chorus]

the man downstairs was dead for 3 weeks
his own cat started eating him, the house starts to wreak
that's when we moved out, our house was bigger
we had the large garage and the __
we used to pray for 3 hours in the morning
sitting on the school bus believe we was yawning
all our hair was stuck down to our forehead
sexy boys walking round showing interest
in what i don't know coz we all had flat chests
don't think we never mastered the 'Kid n Play' steps
doowop for days in the bogle yep
but this is just the beginning of my life right,
9 kids a house in one life time
yo, the beginning of my life right
9 kids a house in one life time......
