www.epitonic.com has tons of free downloads - generally one or two tracks per album for free, all legal.
Mainly obscure indie, electronica, and a folk section to I beleive.
Check out the Scout Niblett songs on there, she's ace (and from my Nottingham too) _________________ Scattershot Writing: www.jameseverington.blogspot.com |

You need a newsreader, I use Xnews http://xnews.newsguy.com/
It would take me too long to explain how to use it, but between the help files and http://www.slyck.com/xnews.php you should get a good idea.
You also need a decent news server. Your ISP should provide one, but for MP3's & stuff they tend not to be very good. The files are usually incomplete and aren't retained for more than a day or two.
I use Easynews http://www.easynews.com/ which costs $10 a month for 10GB of downloads, which is a lot of MP3's!. Retention is excellent as is the list of groups they carry.
I used to use 1usenet before I had broadband http://www.1usenet.com/ This costs $3.95 a month (about £2) and has a 100mb a day limit. This was more than enough for a dial up connection.
There are some reasonable free ones about too. http://www.teranews.com/ has a free account that will give you 50mb a day limit,
Once you have access to the Usenet groups you have MP3's, films and almost anything else you can think of at your disposal. The binaries groups are where you'll find music & movies & such, there are also thousnds of discussion groups. It's well worth a look! _________________ We would like to announce that due to cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off..... |

BTW,
What is your interest in folk?
I have a mate who swears by it. He likes stuff like Show of Hands and kind of Celtic flavoured stuff (he's a born again Scot!) some of it doesn't sound too bad but some is dreadful!
I have about 1GB of Judy Collins & Sandy Denny MP3's I got for Mrs. Dubya.
I don't care much for the former but I quite like the Sandy Denny album.
Now where's that Arran sweater..... _________________ We would like to announce that due to cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off..... |
