bloc party seem to have a bit of life about them from the two singles i've heard. in a similar-ish vein there is a great album around at the moment by a band called "the walkmen", and if you haven't heard it, their single "the rat" is one of the real top ten singles of last year - ignore all this libertines nonsense that nme/mtv will give you. the walkmen album is nothing like the single btw, it's all over the place with some real delicate gorkys-style moments believe it or not.
with regards to the chemical brothers album, i would like to adjust my position slightly. it does dip a little bit in parts, but what i would say is that if you made an ep of the best four tracks on it it would be a truly great record to own, and the reason i respect that is because given the position they are in, they could have gotten away with much less, but they really seem to have put the effort in with this one to create a sound which brings something fresh to the mainstream.
and fair play to anybody who really goes for it when they could make a stack of cash by just repeating a tried and tested formula - that's what i say.
for what it's worth i'm also really getting off on the zombies at the moment - their odessey and oracle album is a "must have", as is the classic "another girl another planet" single by the only ones from 1978 or something.

Hear! Hear! on the Zombies, sparky!
I saw Blunstone and Argent a couple of years ago... sadly, the Argent stuff was better than most of the Zombies material; and they ignored most of the Oddesey album too
Blunstone's solo album One Year is very good too. It's a natural continuation of O&O.
re: the Chemicals album... is Galvanise one the four standout tracks; because that doesn't do much for me, I'm afraid.
The new Mercury Rev album is good: sort of a distillation of Deserter's Songs and All is Dream. I've listened to it about three times now, and couldn't hum you any of the melodies back; but it's still a very good listen.
I've just bought OMD's Architecture and Morality album which is very good indeed. Very pretentiously packaged and pretentously titled, but there's a surprising amount of warmth and tunefulness in amongst it all. Very good. _________________ The Musical Mystery Tour,

I'd say that Galvanize is one of the 4 best tracks yes.
Apart from a coupleof tunes it's all really rather average in my opinion.

the best tune on the album is called "hold tight london". i am going to court controversy by disagreeing with kinkster on the single being one of the best four tracks, and i am going to say download the following and create your own ep...
(1) the boxer (vocal by tim burgess)
(2) the big jump
(3) hold tight london (vocal by anne lynne)
(4) surface to air
also, following on from adam w's zombie enthusiasm, i was going to say adam that whilst listening to odessey and oracle in the office the other day i had the thought that the zombies would sound good in your dj sets (i skim read the lists you posted before xmas), so it was good to read your post just now.
respect to you all, by the way. |

i think it would be courting controversy for anyone on this board to ever agree with me heheheheh _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

this had been driving me mad but i think i got it. wasn't this the title of a money mark album? 'push the button' that is, not the first sentence.

The Walkman album was one of last years lost gems n agree the Rat was up there with the best 10 singles too.
Didn't they come out of Jonathon Fire*eater though? |

I'm listening to The Rat now; and you're very, very right!
How did I miss this one?
