I'm DJ'ing tomorrow night at a 60's themed night... but I reckon that after 3 hrs of the Beatles / Beach Boys / Donovan / Love / Small Faces etc. people might have got a bit sick of the retroism... so, I thought it might be 'clever' to do a set of ace, 60's influenced stuff... Teenage Fanclub, the Bangles, B-52's, Jet [off the back of You Can't Hurry Love], Dee-Lite, all that kind of easily traceable stuff... oh, and that Boo Radleys band are in there somewhere, and it's not It's Lulu Smile

Has anyone here got any ideas for other tracks that might fit in with that theme? Not original 60's stuff... stuff that takes a lead from the 60's... I can't even find my Times albums, and I Helped Patrick McGoohan escape would have been just bloody perfect seeing as I'm going as No. 6 [fancy dress, y'see]. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks, and happy new year.

Be seeing you,

Twisted Evil

Phil Collins, for his obvious love of early Motown...... Wink

Or....

Kings Of Leon have a sixties feel to their music, I reckon.
The Mary Chain too. "Automatic" in particular.
The Fall's version of "White Lightning" is superb!
Remember Jellyfish? Some nice tunes on their first album.
Twisterella by Ride
Super Furries - Some stuff from Fuzzy Logic?

You haven't mentioned any Motown/ (Northern) Soul stuff. You can do a good hour or more of that. Some cracking tunes to be had there.
Afghan Whigs kind of fit in with that too!

There's also David Gedge's previous outfit Cinerama, quite sixties in places at any rate.

That's a cool idea but I can't really think of anything which isn't really obvious. I suppose you could play some stuff from The Grey Album (the Jay-Z/Beatles bootleg thing), if its still available for download anywhere. And the Vines have a song called 1969. On a vaguely related note, if any of you get the chance you must go to see the documentary film 'Festival Express'. Its a about a rock tour in the 1970's where all the bands travelled around together on a train. It looked like great fun.

Have a great new year everyone.

SFA - Rings Around The World
Ed Ball - The Mill Hill Self Hate Club
Paul McCartney - Off the Ground
The Electric Soft Parade - Lose Yr Frown
Elliott Smith - Son of Sam

Duh. Nevermind, they probably don't sound very 60's influenced.
When are we going to hear the new podcast-thingy?

Hi, Tommy - happy new year, and all that... there will be a new podcast round about the 10th January... the Christmas period is the busiest time of the year for me, so the goodshit had to take a back seat for the last couple of weeks.

How's Finland?

and, Rings Around the World is a frighteningly ACE choice too! The Beach Boys harmonies are perfect .

Have a good un.

Ooh Adam, I've been waiting here patiently, but there's still no new podcast thingy!! Wink

"How's Finland?"
When you asked the question, Finland was rainy and dark and depressing. Now there's snow on the ground again and the weather's a bit breezy but nice. How's Chester? Rolling Eyes

Hi Tommy,

There is constipation on the goodshit front because a variety of unforeseen events have coincided with the start of the year to decimate my free-time. My wife's best friend fell down her stairs and broke her neck meaning that my wife is going to the hospital 45 miles away a few evenings a week to keep her company, which means that I'm on child duty - which is well fine by me, especially considering the circumstances... and, I've just been commisioned to do a pop quiz for Radio Wales, and an outside broadcast on Holyhead, all by the end of February... but, the goodshit isn't dead, and I'll force a gallon of prune juice down my neck if I haven't posted a new one by the end of next week.

Chester is fucking lovely today. Cold and bright as a razor. And I'm stuck in front of my computer trying to "work" Smile

Thanks for not mentioning the [un]Mighty Reds, incidentally...

Look after yourself.
