I just got the new idlewild album and am listening to it right now. I don't know what to think of it. it sounds a bit "mature". Trying a bit too hard to be REM i think. The last two albums they did were great but so far this one is a bit of a let down. Anyone else heard it? Maybe it will grow on me and i will have it in my best of list at the end of the year. Probably not................

Doves are playing a US tour with Mercury Rev opening. Not sure i can fork out the $30 though.

I'm really into it. Not a big fan of REM so i couldn't compare, it just sounds like a natural progression to the last two albums to me rather than being "mature". That, in my opinion is a bit of a redundant word anyway (imagine if MC hadn't gone "mature" we wouldn't have got Giant Steps or Wake Up and The Boos would been left behind as part of the shoegazing scene). Hard to say whether it's gonna be in my top ten of the year though, we've already had corkers from Doves, Mercury Rev and The Chemical Brothers, looks like being a good year, we just need the Queens of the Stone Age, The Tears and of course BC and we're laughing.

By the way anyone in the Liverpool area should come to the Top Draw Night at the Zanzibar on Seel Street on sunday to see my band The Caines play, amongst others. We run the night with a couple of other local bands and it's the first birthday party, so should be fun.

It's still growing on me. I definitely like "Welcome Home" and "I Understand It". And surely "El Capitan" has got to be a single! Very Happy It's hard to believe that "100 Broken Windows" was five years ago - I still rate that album very highly.

Just been and bought "Super Furry Animals - Under The Influence" today. Many lovely songs from the likes of the Beach Boys, Gorky's, and MC5. And a whole page on the inside sleeve written by none other than bravecaptain himself. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

idlwild is growing on me. El Capitan is definately cool. When i said it sounded mature i meant that it sounded a bit like the MOR shit that bands tend to make as they get older. This album has definately been made with large audiences in mind. ITs a bit safe. I think my mom would probably think more than half the songs 'sound nice'.

I am currently enjoying a Josh Rouse album "Nashville" full of great summer tunes.

And of course the Godlike I Am Kloot's "Gods and Monsters" spine tinglingly fantastic. x (although not out till next month if you were thinking of rushing out to get it!)

with hew on "late night tales" - got that on right now in fact.

great story about banksy in the paper today:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1445836,00.html

also, while we're at it, the record you want to check out right now is 'come with me' by dj hyper (daniel taylor remix) - taylor is a 17-year-old german kid from what i read, and his remix kicks ass esp when played right loud.

http://www.danieltaylor.de/index2.htm

http://www.djhyper.com/article.asp?artid=1102

no soundclips of that one online yet but it's out in april so they should materialise fairly soon...

looks like i best keep me head down for a while...

one last word on banksy though, and that is to point out that it isn't just what he does that is great, it's the statements he issues as follow up - case in point the quotes in that article, and also stuff like this:

"Remember crime against property is not real crime. People look at an oil painting and admire the use of brushstrokes to convey meaning. People look at a graffiti painting and admire the use of a drainpipe to gain access."

on the subject of hilarious artists, also check out david shrigley if you haven't already! his site is down at the time of writing but will no doubt be available again soon:

bye everyone...
