well so much for the idea of voting Green! the ballot form was quite a deisppointment, the big 3 parties plus UKIP plus the Socialist Alternative Party (who got something like 800 votes). and I couldn't bring myself to spoil the ballot paper so Labour got me. at least Neil Gerrard, my local MP seems to be reasonbly ok, if I remember correctly he was one of the very few rebels that voted against tuition fees.
Kinkster, the reason the Lib Dems will never get my vote is that they aren't left wing enough for me. niether is Tony Blair or Gordon Brown, mind you, I wouldn't say I'm really near to Ken Liveingstone politcially but I'm leaning in that kind of direction. I agree that the Lib Dems have some commonsense policies but I still see them as soft Tories.
My council tax has gone up ridiculously too and I see too much money wasted on a so-called regeneration of the town centre, that really galls me. They re-paved the high street, which was great and then they put in all new lighting but some silly arse decided it would be nice to have lights projecting swirly patterns onto the pavement, what a waste! since I live next to the High Street I get to see these charming patterns but since there's very little entertainment available, there are very few other people around to see them. And don't get me started on the Libaray redevelopment, they had 5 million set aside for it as part of a new shopping centre and it all fell through, so no new library. I keeps wondering whatever happened to common sense? |

Who runs that council then?
Anyway, enough of this thread. I tend not to be able to discuss politics and the election, without getting frustrated and angry at people, so I'm gonna shut my self-righteous gob.

people shouldn't be punished for earning big money but they should pay a little more tax. it's where it goes that worries me.

One thing that annoys me when people talk about tax is that they treat it like shopping - if they pay £XXX they seem to think that they should get 'value for money' and exactly the same XXX amount spent on them by the government... rather than spending it where it might be most needed. Ya think? _________________ Scattershot Writing: www.jameseverington.blogspot.com |
