St. Etienne - Foxbase Alpha
Ride - Nowhere
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
The Beatles - Rubber Soul
Echo and the Bunnymen - Ocean Rain
Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix

that'll do for starters, surely... [and I'm not calling you Shirley!]

Put the 'Give Up' album by 'The Postal Service' on there, it's great. Good travelling music and good for summer too.

...And put our BC Board mixes on there too of course from Dubya's site! http://www.fredfish.net/

alrighty then... here's what i've been listening to on the bus in the last couple of days...

for those about to rock...

the ramones - the ramones

big black - songs about fucking

for when you need a funky little taste of soul...

parliament - mothership connection

james brown's funky divas

because i seem to have some sort of obsessive problem with robyn hitchcock...

soft boys - underwater moonlight

new stuff... i like the chalets, magic numbers, sons and daughters, distophia...

will think of some more... enjoy in the meantime...

Doctor Syntax by Edwyn Collins. I've just borrowed it from the library. I also have Elvis Costello, When I Was Cruel which has some classic Costello themes. And of course the album you've heard in my kitchen lately, also courtesy of Waltham Forest libraries, Phantom Force. Please don't hate me for taking so long to listen to it, I know most of the songs from seeing them live so it didn't seem necessary.

A good idea for a thread - I got a pod last week. I have been trying to restrict myself to putting on CDs I haven't given a proper listen too, namely:

CatPower - Moon Pix Kraftwerk - Radio_Activity
James - Laid Rilo Kiley - The Execution Of All Things
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm New Oasis
Joanna Newsom - Milk Eyed Mender Brian Eno - 1st one
Mercury Rev - See You On The Other Side
allonewordsmallbee (okay, I have given this one many proper listens!)

Mutations - Beck
Sea Change - Beck
Magic Hour - Cast
Nimrod - Green Day
Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea - PJ Harvey
Night On My Side - Gemma Hayes
Turn On The Bright Lights - Interpol
Yield - Pearl Jam
This Is The Tomb Of The Juice - Republic Of Loose Wink
The Disconnection - Carina Round

anything else that comes to mind is either too obvious or has been suggested already

Cast is in there coz John Power is a legend. The La's gig the other night was as good as could be hoped for, too...

My playlist from last week:

Ride - Going Blank Again
Mary Chain - Automatic
Fatima Mansions - Viva Dead Ponies
Crowded House - Recurring Dream (best of)
ACDC - Highway To Hell
New Order - Waiting For The Siren's Call
Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life
Police - Sychronicity
Complete works of The Cure? can't go wrong there!
Which is your favourite?
Mine would be Disintegration, followed by perhaps Kiss Me and maybe Faith.

And do you have any of the 2CD remasters?

hmmm

To my ears Wild Mood Swings would be one of their weakest. It was Cure by numbers by that point.
That's not to say it doesn't have some good stuff on there (Want, 13th, Strange Attraction, Bare).

What is it about WMS that makes it your favourite?

I'd suggest you give Kiss Me a few more listens. It will reward you for doing it.
Just Like Heaven is one of the best songs they ever did, and for atmospherics you can't beat If Only Tonight We Could Sleep and Snakepit. Like Cockatoos is wonderful too. Try and search out some of the B sides from that album. Sugar Girl in particular.

I have a fondeness for Disintegration that perhaps has more to do with the time of my life than the quality of the songs. I do consider it to be the last great album the Cure did though.

'Tis a top Cure pop moment for sure! Still can't beat Just Like Heaven though. Or perhaps In Between Days.....

There was an acoustic version of it (Mint Car) around at that time which was fantastic.
I think I have it somewhere, time to raid the CD box!

Bit of a Cure fan me! Me & Mrs Dubya had Lovesong as our first dance when
we got married!

that guy, what is it he needs, a holiday maybe, a pay rise? there is so much music out there that doesn't deserve to ever be committed to vinyl/disc, but it takes up so much energy to hate it as much as he seems to, when he could be sitting listening to the stuff that turns him on.
