Here's an old thing that might just help you understand cricket Tommy:
You have two teams, one out in the field and one in.
Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in, and the next man goes in until he's out.
When they are all out the side that's out comes in, and the side thats been in goes out, and tries to get those coming in out.
Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When both sides have been in and out including the not outs ...
THAT'S THE END OF THE GAME!!!
HOWZAT!!!
As for golf, I think it's something to do with hitting sheep turds down rabbit holes with a stick but I'm not sure. _________________ We would like to announce that due to cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off..... |

Another great test, good enough to make me turn over from Man U vs Newcastle but that wouldn't have taken much.
Mike Atherton said that the 5th test could be the biggest sporting event in England since the 1966 World Cup, not sure about that but I may delay my search for new job long enough to make sure that i can watch it. |

It's great being over in Oz at the mo. They are totally hating the fact that the Poms are beating them again! |

i wish i could have watched it but i had to settle to listening on the radio. Sounds like a pretty amazing performance by pieterson. Now all i need is villa to beat west ham later. _________________ Martin O'Neill's Claret And Blue Army |

Did the Ashes get shown anywhere on TV in the US? Pietersons innings was great to watch, its incredible to see someone performing so well when the pressure is really on, like Federer in the tennis last night.
When I was in Australia most of the cricket fans over there didn't seem to bothered about the Ashes cos they assumed there'd be a whitewash and they saw the games against India as being more important these days. I suspect that might have changed now.
Without wanting to sound like one of the hundreds of 'cricket is great, football is rubbish' articles which will fill the papers tomorrow I'd don't think it would be a bad thing if some footballers started to behave more like cricketers in terms of accepting bad decisions/loses/things not being hunky dory etc. Wayne Rooney went mad during the England game last week and apparently spent all of half time having a go at his team mates and for some reason everyone seems to think thats fine cos it shows he's got 'passion'. Plus did you see Flintoff got a cheque for £4000 for being the man of the series? I bet there's not a single Premiership footballer who doesn't earn that in one week.
Cricket is great! Football is rubbish! Until we play Man U on Sunday anyway. |

oh dear. 4-0.
despite West Ham being my '2nd team' I feel sorry for Aston Villa fans right now
Watching cricket is like looking at statues, waiting for them to move. Rounders for toffs |

I always despised cricket until this test (probably because Iam not working and have the available 200 days required to watch it!!)
But now I love it. You get to a key point in the game and the umpire suddenly goes " ok...drinks" or "lunch" or "afternoon cakes" and everone troops off the pitch.... as i'm getting older this sort of thing definately apeals.
Could you imagine Liverpool v Man Utd...van Nistleroy bearing down on goal and Graham Poll suddenly blowing his whistle and going "Tea and Cakes chaps".... that would be ace...
As i'm turning into a softie I also loved the sportmanship and the accepting the umpires decision and all that sort of stuff during the test.
Hope everyone healthy wealthy and wise. I'm in Hong Kong and miss you all!
