buy the dvd and let us know if it's any good! Very Happy

how come all those people who speak on movie trailers sound exactly like the same? i've been thinking about this all my life and i still don't know why. also, the narrators on all the nature documents in the world have same kind of a voice. Confused

anyway, you gotta check this out. it's the best movie trailer in the history of all movie trailers ever made.

I just got the soundtrack to that and it has me completely cranked up to see the special (on PBS here). But let me tell you about this CD:

A) It's got the Newport '65 version of Maggie's Farm which is beautiful. The flippin' nerd from Pizza Poop & Magpie introduces Dylan in hushed tones as the poet of the folk scene- very reverential and he even askes the band to stop tuning so he can do his little genuflection.. and then they come raging into the tune with Mike Bloomfield slashing through like an icepick. After the first verse, they just dispense with the chord changes and riff on A for the rest of the tune. Take that Peter Yarrow, you turd in a turtleneck.

B) It's got a gorgeous early version of "This Land Is Your Land"

C) It's got the Manchester version of "Like A Rolling Stone"- the famous Judas incident. I'd heard about it a million times but never actually heard it. You distinctly hear Bob say "Play fucking loud" and Jesus H. Christ (and also William H. Macy) do they lay into that bastard. The opening snare shot sounds like the start of a war and the drums do not let up throughout and Bob just hoooooowls the entire song. It's breathtaking.

Also, great booklet with notes by Andrew Loog Oldham and the inevitable Al Kooper. Did I ever tell you all that Al played at my wedding? That's not a name drop, kids, that's a fact. You should have all come, you would have loved it.

i've got a version from the albert hall gig that year. bob's introduction is smashed genius. when the band kicks in it sounds like there is four hundred o' them mothers up there. then bob sings and oh my god..

he's fucking shit. ha ha ha ha ha completely ruins it.

brilliant!
