"Was there ever a good film remake?"
Hitchcock remade his own Man Who knew Too Much. both excellent.
also the Lolita with Jeremy Irons is probably better than the Kubrick one. Neither of which completely do the book justice though.
As for new films, you guys have to see Me and You and Everyone We Know. It's on DVD now, mindblowing movie, with one of the most hysterical scenes in all of film.

I can't remember the title but the film with Michael Caine and Steve Martin was a remake, and a lot of people consider it better than the original...I don't mind you, I think they're equally good, both hilarious in their own way (comedy by Marlon Brando has to be seen).

I don't think so, Gill...
It's called
Soccer Dog: European Cup
(2004)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0365770/
It looks great, I think I want to see this film now!

One more vote for Spinal Tap. I'm also a huge fan of Lilo and Stitch, who I think are long overdue a mention.
I watched Finding Neverland and Captain Corelli's Mandolin a couple of weeks ago, both powerful films although not exactly light entertainment. _________________ We would like to announce that due to cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off..... |

ha ha! I'm standing by my previous statement. Note the qualifier 'probably'! And when isn't Irons terriffic? Always fun, even in shit movies. _________________ "Even I know the solution: love, music, wine and revolution..." (magnetic fields)

King Kong.
If you are at work, quit.
Go watch this film right now.
Mainstream, big-budget, hollywood film(re)making at it's very very best.

But it has dinosaurs in it...
I think the original Lolita was better, think the remake was well played but not that good.

the new King Kong film is guaranteed to be shite. the computer-generated Kong looks as fake as fuck.
I watched the 1933 original and the 1976 remake in the last week... Kong looks best in the remake, but the original film is best, despite the young Jessica Lange |

You personally guarantee the film will be shit, cos the 25ft ape that doesn't exist looks fake?
Did it guarantee that the 1993 film was shit for the same reason?
Maybe you should actually watch stuff before passing such absolute judgement. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,
