i've never been in a band but i always thought there was meant to be some kind of gang/growing up together type mentallity - i've pretty much considered oasis split since bonehead and mcguigham left, they've always struck me as a semi-tribute band ever since, basically the gallagher brothers and friends. they still give/gave ace interviews though so i never went off 'em though their gems are pretty much all on the first 2 albums, def maybe in particular. it still sounds ace. even after all these (where the fuck did they go) years.

'City Hall' from the new Idlewild album. Because it includes the lyric "How could I refuse such an eloquent misuse of a phrase?"

"iamundernodisguise" by School Of Seven Bells.

Not sure if the no-spaces-no-caps is just how my i-tunes has randomly formatted it, rather than any kind of bravecaptain 'homage', but whatever it's a great modern shoegazery track. The whole album is well worth checking out if you like MBV, Cocteau Twins etc.

Do you hip young things like The xx album? I'm a bit obsessed with it at the moment and can't work out whether its because it's really good or because I'm knackered and it's going music to be tired to.

well hip middle aged things like me love the xx album. can't quite say for sure what it reminds me of but at times its kinda like furniture, and at times its like black, and at times its like none of them.

i also like school of seven bells - i rushed back from watching havant play afc wimbledon last season to see them play in bristol and the b*stards did a last minute cancellation, thankfully kyte headlined instead (and that's another album worth getting obsessed with).

this. year. is. album. acers!

I'm really not sure about the xx as yet, must give them a 3rd chance soon.

ToTD is Big Weekend by Lemonade. Thanks to Lovechild for that!

Hope the rest of the album is like that.

I can't remember the name of the track but it was by Monsters Of Folk, Steve Lamacq played it on 6 Music yesterday.

It was good, whatever it was!

'Veronica Sawyer Smokes' by AFI. Good to hear contemporary pop-punk acts sounding more and more like the Smiths.

top song that lemondae one kris, hope yer like the rest of the album. i might check out the big pink - i saw them last month and for the first half of the set they were loud guitars then they turned into a kinda gothic boy band. it was weird.

totd - well i've been makin' do with american radio (til tomorrow Smile) and - yes really - florence and the machines kiss with a fist seems to be making all the boys n girls in atlanta go wild and its stood out amongst much (yes forbes!) indie landfill!
