An occasional thread in which posters tell us what they've been up to today:

14th January 2006: Got up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head, went to work, typed stuff into spreadsheets, listened to the following tunes randomly picked from the ether by my Ipod

Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk - Rufus Wainwright
ELT - Wilco
Lady Lynda - The Beach Boys
Jenny Was A Friend of Mine - The Killers
Hotwax - Beck
Won't Get To Heaven - Spiritualized
Let Me Go - Chicks
Track 12 from My Machine - Princess Superstar
Come 2gether - The Ranjahz
I'm Against IT- The Ramones
I'm So Tired - The Beatles
Hoover Dam - Sugar
Virus - Dan The Automator
A is to B as B is To C - Boards of Canada
Popscene - Blur
I Feel Just Like A Child - Devendra Banhart
Buffalo Bill - The Boo Radleys
Hilarious Movie of the 90's - Fourtet
Binky The Doormat -REM
Represent - Showbiz & AG
Gangsta and a Gentlemen - Styles P
Mos Deb and Talib Kweli - Freestyle
Brave Men Run (In My Family) - Sonic Youth
Shadowboxin' - GZA
Soma - The Strokes
I Don't Care How You Treat Me - My Computer
The Empty Page - Sonic Youth
Someday - Ash
Can You Forgive Her - Pet Shop Boys
Archie and Veronica - Dan The Automator
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter - Nirvana
Ceremony - New Order

Made a list of them, typed them in here, listened to the Manc derby and got back on with my work.

Got up, eat breakfast

Went for 5 mile walk in the Gwydr Forest.

Came home, found copy of "eyeless in canton" waiting for me on the doormat.

Played. Impressed

Played again in kitchen whilst cooking Roast chicken. Even more impressed Smile

Ooh, can't wait for my copy!

Today: Had huge lie-in with my lovely girlfriend, got up very late, drove home, tried to learn about Content Management Systems for a possible new job, watched a 'Bottom' DVD, talked to my housemates, ate bangers and mash and peas, read this, updated my band website (we were played on Xfm yesterday!), next I'm going to the pub and a club (but not drinking too much this week I hope)

Got home from work at 7am, had several cups of tea.
Went to get a cupboard and chest of drawers from a charity shop with Mrs. Dubya about 9am and then had a breakfast in a cafe.
Bit more shopping, got home about lunchtime and went to bed for a few hours.

Got up, went and bought a curry. Now I'm drinking beer and listening to Eyeless in Canton which knocks all our efforts on the old mix site into a cocked hat, frankly!

Will go to bed again in a couple of hours!

Rock n' Roll!
Cool

Up at 8, on the train to work for 8:30. Very frustrating and unproductive day workwise, nothing ever seems to run smoothly for me, but I'm blessed with the resilience of the Gods.

Listened to "A Step In The Left Direction", and decided I didn't own anywhere near enough of this type of music, so went out and bought DFA #2 and the Leaf Records ten-year compilation. Both of them are patchybut have some good tunes and are therefore worthwhile purchases.

6pm went to play footy. Got my (our) arses kicked for 50 minutes and got the train home feeling quite deflated.

Made myself Quorn Spag Boll. fucked it right up and burnt the garlic bread, setting off the fire alarm in the process. It's the nicest veggie meal I've cooked myself so far!

Tomorrow will be much the same! Except for the buying of records. and the footy. and hopefully the frustration at work. and the cooking.

Here is the extent of my Chicks knowledge: They were/are an Irish punk pop group, they had an EP out in the middle of 1998 which I really liked. Steve Lamacq played it loads and said they were the best new Irish band since Ash. I then went abroad for year so the only thing I heard from them was a song on a free CD that came with Melody Maker which I bought for some ridiculous price on import just to hear them. I don't know what happened to them after that, I assumed I'd return to a UK where people were naming their first born's after Chick's tunes but that failed to happen.. I'm not sure ever released any more singles or recorded an album, however their memory lives on in MP3 form on my Ipod.

I thought it was them! but had to make sure, as I've never actually seen a Chicks CD, let alone heard one.

Crying or Very sad

I was speaking to one of them in the last few months, though. And saw her brother play a gig on Sunday night...

Today woke at about 11 O Clock. Had cup of tea (white two sugars). Downloaded the kooks debut album (very good). Came on here discovered that captain had posted full tracks from distractions on myspace (amazing). About to have a second cup of tea then get dressed and have a walk by the sea (southsea). Then preparing some food for when my girlfirend returns from school (she is an english teacher). I am working from 7 in the morning till 3 tommoro so intend to have an easy day today.

Thanks Martin for making the tracks available on myspace making today a good one so far...

The Meltz

xx
