Does anyone out there bother with these? Personally, I've noticed a growing trend this year to annoy album artwork purists with special editions. For example:

Snow Patrol's new album 'Eyes Open'. Regular edition.

And now the special edition.

And it's not just Snow Patrol either. So far this year, Keane and Less Than Jake have put out similarly bland special editions. And they all come in obscure-sized cases that fit nowhere in your CD rack. So far this year it seems that only Belle & Sebastian have got it right.

Ah... rant over.

These days I tend to buy a CD, stick on Itunes and never pick up the CD again except to sometimes use as an emergency shaving mirror. I would just buy directly from Itunes but for the DRM issues and the soundquality issues and the fear of my hard drive being zapped and losing everything and the fact I like hanging around record shops. I suppose I could still do the hanging around though.

The bonus songs on the "special edition" of the new sonic youth album are the two worst songs on the CD.
