Tommy (further to my post in football thread) feel free to vent your spleen here over every incident in every match.
And of course keep us informed of which teams/players you despise most at any given time as well...! _________________ we spent a lot of time trying to make our guitars sound like trumpets...then someone told us we could actually use real trumpets |

that was never a penalty... the italian cheat tripped himself up over a player laying immobile on the ground so it's a penalty? give me a break!
well, somehow i knew that something like that was coming, so i'm not too surprised really. it's a sad end for australia's tournament though, especially because they were the better team today. and what is even more sad is the fact that francesco totti must be some sort of a hero of all italy fans now - that wanker's ego is already too big for this planet.
more rants about the stupid offside rule, sepp blatter, and other annoying things later.

The offside rule is what keep football from being ridiculous!
Maybe it wasn't a penalty now I've seen it a few more times, at the same time he didn't dive, he just fell...put a huge human post in front of most people and they fall. He probably decided not to go round so he wouldn't lose the all.
And JEEEEZ you delude yourself when you claim that Australia played better. They didn't even have that many chances despite having 45 minutes' man advantage.

Also, it was really dumb of the Australian player, when I saw the fall the first time I was certain it was a penalty...and that is probably the look the ref got too.

Um... yes, the old offside rule is of course essential, but I don't like this new bullshit that have been introduced during the Sepp Blatter era. I think we should go back to the old offside rule - yes, there might be less goals then, but not so many controversial goals! When any player is in an offside position, then it should be an offside - now the referees have to decide which players are "interfering with play" and which are not, that's ridiculous! Switzerland (Sebastian Frei) scored a controversial goal like that against South Korea - the linesman flagged the offside but the referee decided that Frei wasn't interfering with play... yeah, since when scoring a goal hasn't been interfering with play?!

So he decided to go
over
the Australian guy and trip over "accidentally"? Maybe he didn't dive, you're probably right about that, but you shouldn't get a penalty by running at a player who's lying on the ground and tripping over him...

Well... Are you saying that Italy were better then? They didn't have that many chances either, and the sending off was their own fault. Maybe a bit harsh, but I've seen much more ridiculous decisions in this World Cup. Australia weren't very good, but neither were Italy, and I'd say that Australia were better. But what does it really matter now?

Still doesn't look like a dive to me, and I till think the aussie needs to learn a little street smarts...though I'd like to know where he was before this action, I forgot, why is he down in the first place?
Italy played better in the first half yes, and smarter in the second...regardless of the penalty I didn't really think Australia technically deserved it. Although, in football you don't deserve, you do.
