It worked on the built-in rrs feed thingy in Opera at least.
Downloading now...
You should post the links to the first two demos here as well, or are they not available anymore?
Cheers Adam !

Hi Tommy - this is the sixth 'demo of the week'... they aren't available at the moment due to bandwidth issues... I might stick them on line right at the end of this month if I have any bandwidth left ;0)
Thanks for checking these tracks out... let me know what you think, please. _________________ The Musical Mystery Tour,

Well, it would be ace if you could upload the first three demos (the ones that obviously weren't posted here), I'd like to hear them too
The new demo by Micrographia is pretty good too, not as good as the previous two demos though, maybe because it's an instrumental. Good tea music.

Okay - here you go, Tommy - for a limited period only ;0)
The Sky is Blue
------------------
The inaugral 'demo of the week' comes from a band from Bristol [I think] called The Sky is Blue. The song, 'Country', defies easy categorisation, and the bands that it brings to my mind are only vague reference points, not - probably - actual influences... but, to my ears, there are echoes of Low, early Talk Talk, earlier Aztec Camera... it's a beguiling, spidery skittle across a fingerpicked acoustic, some delicate harmonics and a sudden swell of organ, all led by a fragile and beautiful vocal. Very good indeed.

Iolo
There was very, very stiff competition this week. Stiffer than a dead Daily Mail reader ripped to the tits on an inbox full of Viagra and Cialis. This week, Iolo Edger gets the packet of crushed, own brand digestives for his superb slice of FM-friendly, power pop Heartbreaker.
Great drums, fab tambourine mixed up high, a riff that recalls the Raspberries, Bad Company, Rainbow and Matthew Sweet simultaneously, and then shamelessly bangs on in a thoroughly un-British way, as if it's a sun-bleached cousin come over from L.A. that all the pale girls promptly fall in love with.
Iolo's from South Wales, somewhere... ah, a quick look at the letter reveals he is from Brigend. Iolo says, "More than anything, I'm melodically motivated to free young ladies from the nature of anti-pop terrorists. It was this attitude that got me booted out of the Fall when I was ten."
Iolo will also have an exhibtion coming up next year of his paintings at the Washington Gallery in Penarth.
One listen to Heartbreaker will probably have our joyless critics stabbing it to death with their pens, muttering about "shameless melodicism" and "this doesn't sound anything like Shellac". They would tell you that Iolo is as cool as Clarks sandals worn over white, towelling socks. Of course, the fact that he is that uncool makes him cooler than fuck.

----------------
Rhys Downing
First off, thanks for the MASSIVE response to Iolo's track last week - for a second, I thought I was going to have to pay many extra pennies to cover the huge surge in bandwidth that the site has enjoyed over the last fortnight. Rest assured, it's all sorted now.
Until the next time.
I should also say thank you to all of you who have taken the time to e-mail demos to my mp3 e-mail account... only one can win this coveted title, but the other submissions have been of an incredibly high standard too, many of them 'earning' airplay on the radio show that I would appear to be of the opinion is far more influential than it actually is.
Rhys Downing is a young chap about whom I know nothing. His mate - or fan - Rob, in Brecon, e-mailed me a link to the song you can download - for free - below saying, simply, and I quote,
superb
PLAY IT.
Rob ain't wrong. I wanted him to be because I can't stand it when SOMEONE ORDERS ME ABOUT IN CAPITAL LETTERS; but other than his choice of case, Rob appears to be on the money..
A little scratch around revealed that Rhys has a
website
, and a quick visit to his website revealed to me that Rob doesn't have a band. He plays all of the instruments himself. If that was good enough for Prince, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney, then it should be no hinderance to Rhys..
Silence [the song you can download below] is wonderfully not of its time or place. I have seen surgical theatres in Switzerland with more grime; more two-step from a millipede with tap shoes on, abd heard Mongolian throat singers who sound more like LCD Soundsystem than Rhys does..
There is a compact, restrained economy to his - all his - sound that reminds me of New Order and, even moreso, Prefab Sprout. There is a simple sophistication to the song that belies his youthfulness. Please enjoy loudly.

Thanks, I'll download them all tonight and give them a listen. I'll let you know then.
If you want, I can host the songs for a little while, but only for the people on this board. I might get into some sort of trouble if the whole Wales started downloading these songs from my website... _________________

Demo of the Week - 2005 - 12 - 06
The very wonderful, Soft-Hearted Scientists...
They're demoing material for their forthcoming 2nd album on the My Kung Fu record label. Judging by the songs that I've heard so far, it won't suffer from that 'difficult second album' syndrome...

Take a pinch of Coffee and TV era-Blur; a soupcon of Air's Moon Safari; a sprig of hippity hoppity handclaps, and marinade in an overwrought culinary analogy, and you have my demo of the week, this week...
poq
It's fucking ace, I tell ye!

The built-in rss feed thingy in Opera didn't tell me about this week's free mp3 download. Should I resort to violence and give my browser a good slapping? _________________

I think you should resort to slapping me, Tommy - not the browser... I forgot to update the title of the feed. It should be working now. *should*
thanks for letting me know, though. _________________ The Musical Mystery Tour,
