Or for about a fortnight.

I reckon it'll be like that Beautiful South greatest hits which was in the top ten for years. The Kids still love those lovable mop tops and old people still love Wonderwall Meanwhile I sit sulking in a corner moaning about how they're not as good as they used to be and how its too damn hot at the moment. |

I can envisage them leaving off a number of songs you'd expect to find on it, just so people still buy the original albums to get what's missing.
the blurb about them having an almost impossible task in choosing the tracklisting is typical of the misplaced delusions of grandeur they have any more. They've not done a good album since Definitely Maybe ffs |

I always though The Masterplan was the greatest hits anyway _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

I never really liked the song The Masterplan. But Supersonic was just on the radio and still sounds immense and therefore The Kids are right to still love them. Well done The Kids. |

Don't understand the Oasis backlash myself. And I talk as someone who pretty much hated them for 10 years or so, and have only really started listening to them over the last year or two. Unusual, I know. But, to my ears, although Definitely Maybe and The Masterplan probably comprise of their best material, Standing On The Shoulders, Heathen Chemistry and (gulp) Be Here Now are all fine albums in their own right. The first in a watery psychedelic kind of way, the second as a good time summer record and the third as an multicolour behemoth of a record. I can see how each would grate in precisely these ways but in retrospect the Oasis backlash (critical, not commercial of course) seems rather harsh and reeks more than a little of bandwagon jumping.
Just my twopenneth worth loik. |

The 10 stages of the Oasis Backlash.
1. Cigarettes & Alcohol demo from the NME - impressed interest
2. Missing the first round of shows - disappointment
3. Those first few singles - slightly underwhelmed
4. Discovering the lyrics of Some Might Say - incredulous
5. The success of Morning Glory - resignedly incredulous
6. Dog-like morons giving tongue to Wonderwall in pubs up & down the land - teeth-grinding outrage
7. embarrassing politicians expressing their disappointment & dislike of Be Here Now - amused satisfcation
8. Sice trying to out-bellow Liam on C'mon Kid (the song) - despairing, teeth-grinding outrage
9. Thereafter a form of indifference, or more accurately hands clamped to ears yeling LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU.
Until....
10. I learned about the Lisa Moorish story - childish side-hugging glee.
Greatest Hits? If they call it Shitehawks of Burnage, I'll buy it.

the tracklisting isn't too bad... Lyla aside... and where the fook is Whatever?
they could have left off Talk Tonight and Half The World Away (I doubt all five people who still care about The Royle Family and who haven't already got the song won't be rushing out to buy this compilation) |

For those wanting a look:
'Rock 'N' Roll Star'
'Some Might Say'
'Talk Tonight'
'Lyla'
'The Importance Of Being Idle'
'Wonderwall'
'Slide Away'
'Cigarettes & Alcohol'
'The Masterplan'
'Live Forever'
'Acquiesce'
'Supersonic'
'Half The World Away'
'Go Let It Out'
'Songbird'
'Morning Glory'
'Champagne Supernova'
'Don't Look Back In Anger'
Which means Oasis feel they only wrote two of their gretest hits in about an eight year period.

some of them weren't even singles never mind hits
but anyway, it's a bit of a populist selection otherwise... I went off The Masterplan when I had to endure some friends play it about 20 times in a row
as for "Oasis feel they only wrote two of their gretest hits in about an eight year period" - if you mean the most recent songs, it'd be four in a five year span, or 4 in the last 6 years. There's not many bands going as long who'd have a larger number of hits in the latter part of that time, anyway |

i was referring to Go Let It Out and Songbird being the only songs from 1996-2004.
We could say 4 songs in ten years yeah _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

ok, thanks for the clarification
but it's slightly mischievous to include three years (one at the start, two at the end) in that eight years where nothing was released (not to mention the quiet years in between)
would be better to say two songs from three albums
All Around The World would have made it ahead of some songs, if I was choosing the tracklist
bit surprised they left off Stop Crying Your Heart Out, as that was well received at the time, or so I thought
looking at the tracklistings of Be Here Now to Heathen Chemistry, the next song I'd have on there would be D'You What I Mean?
struggling for something memorable, in other words
at least Little By fucking Little isn't on there
the really early stuff puts most bands' Best Ofs to shame, though... including Oasis since then, of course |
