Right then kids. I think it's time to get down to business, cease all the messing around, quit beating around the bush and start talking about The Truth.

We've had many "Best Thing Ever" threads before in the past but secretly we knew they weren't important, we skimped on our research, stayed in bed when we should have been training and were generally slap dash. But not this time. Hell no!

This is going to be the definitive "Best Records Ever" thread. Everyone who has ever visited this site must list the 5 best songs and 5 best albums which have soundtracked their lives up until this point. Failure to do so will result in a general feeling of malaise.

To make sure that people don't just rush into it and list whatever they're currently listening to at this very moment, no-one can post here until Friday 22nd June. That'll give you all time to think about it, hang around record shops, take a week off work to research it and generally devote your entire life to making your choice.

Get thinking!

Would it be a good idea to exclude The Boos and Martin from this? Cos we can safely assume that everyone on here loves them anyway!

Bravecaptain and Boo Radleys records are allowed. This is the ultimate thread (see unoriginal pictoral evidence above), nothing can be excluded.

On Friday 22nd of June I'm going to be mashed out of my brain in the middle of some farm, telling Mark that Fire Escape is the single of the year. When I get back it will take me several weeks to calm down enough to give considered reasoning as to why Giant Steps changed my life and Live Forever soundtracked the best Summer ever.

Actually, reading that paragrapgh back, you'd think I'm fucked enough already Embarassed

I also love Alexa Chung and am disappointed Pop World is being taken off. The world will be a poorer place without it.

A couple of internety things:

An interview with James Murphy from the Guardian website:
http://download.guardian.co.uk/sys-audio/Music/music/2007/06/14/MusicExtra_JamesMurphy.mp3

And a documentary about Alan McGee and Creation from a few years ago.

Anybody else really, really not want to go to work tomorrow?

Right I'll kick off then. Based on the albums/songs I've listened to and loved most during the past 30 years the definitive John Mc list which I will now have tattooed on my forehead is.

Best Albums:

Substance - New Order
Maximum Minimum - Kraftwerk
Advertisements For Myself -bravecaptain
Automatic For The People - REM
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain - Pavement

Best Songs:

Faster - Manic Street Preachers
Welcome To The Terrordome - Public Enemy
Cowgirl - Underworld
This Is A Low - Blur
Barney and Me - The Boo Radleys

And the best song I've heard today is "Foundations" by Kate Nash which I find curiously sad and lovely. It should be noted that I find everything curiously sad and lovely when I'm hungover.
