Just for fun.
A = Ash. Heard them for the first time in early 1995 I think and convinced me to form a band with my mates. Really really liked them for a long time, but the new album fille dme with apathy.
Who's giving me a B?

b = buzzcocks. i started listening to them in the 80's and saw them on a reunion tour in 1990 i think. i really love the first 3 records and "singles going steady" i got into them by way of joy division (reading that they toured together). great mix of pop songs and punk in my opinion. their latest offering has a few gems on it. |

D is for Nick Drake.
Some of the most beautiful songs ever made.
All three albums ignored on release but a deceased superstar now. _________________ we spent a lot of time trying to make our guitars sound like trumpets...then someone told us we could actually use real trumpets |

e = echo and the bunnymen
martin ended up round our flat after the last ever bravecaptain gig, and we had all these really cool records on vinyl, but no record player! doh! so we ended up playing the best of echo and the bunnymen cd pretty much on repeat and taking ridiculous amounts of speed. awww. killing moon has to be one of my favourite songs ever. |

F for Forbes.. no not really but if he were posting now it would be (as with me)
FAMILY CAT
Loved by nme when you had to be able to both write and have an opinion, adhored by those who got blown away by the power of 4 guitarists (with no fret wank!!) and by a band who's tunes were adorable. They wrote about footie when no band other than half man half biscuit would dream of doing so, chucked occasional country tinged beauties that would've done the rockingbirds proud, did a song with Polly Harvery, gigged in the proper West Country and played a riotous set on a boat going down the river tamar when the mad landlord from the minverva was threatening to chuck about 10 of us on the grounds that we were all male and went to Argyle, an all time fave gig. At the end we surrounded a couple of them, and gave Jelbert one of our Argyle shirts which he duly wore when they opened the XFM Fest at Finsbury Park just 2 days later. We were there for that to, and not even the lovely Tanya Donnolly could top 'em. _________________ Britain... It's not that Great! |

G is for Gay Dad
Had a great band name.
Had a great band symbol.
Released "To Earth With Love" which name checked 'Kraftwerk' and 'Aerosmith' and was, for a brief period, my favourite song ever. It really was.
Released 'Joy' which was the soundtrack to an advert for big rainforest killing motor vehicles.
Released 'Oh Jim' which was slow and not as good as 'To Earth With Love'
Went away for a bit.
Andy Bell out of Ride joined.
Andy Bell out of Ride left.
Came back with 'Now Always and Forever' in 3 different colour CDs form.
By then no-one cared.

I is for IQ. Some neo-prog nonesense that I was quite partial to back in about 1983 and still have a place in my musical lexicon.
If you're feeling particularly adventurous check out "The Wake" I really liked that album in my early teens. _________________ We would like to announce that due to cutbacks the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off..... |

Good topic....
H = Luke Haines in my opinion.
New solo stuff is well worth checking out - who else would write a funny song about the Yorkshire Ripper? (Darkly funny, obviously). Or one moaning about how Gary Glitter had ruined the reputation of The Glittter Band?
And then if you look back at his albums with The Auteurs, BBR etc.... - I'm struggling to find a duff one at all. _________________ Scattershot Writing: www.jameseverington.blogspot.com |

I Am Kloot.
The best band this decade. Struggling to find a record company to release their fourth Album at the moment. _________________ we spent a lot of time trying to make our guitars sound like trumpets...then someone told us we could actually use real trumpets |

L is for Longpigs...
A band with incredible songs and amazing melodies, as under-rated as the Boos sadly have been. Crispin Hunt's voice was one of the best around. The best tape anyone ever gave me introduced me to Longpigs and the Boos at the same time - The Sun Is Often Out on one side, Giant Steps on the other, genius!
