New Order - Technique
Sugar - Copper Blue
The Boo Radleys - Giant Steps
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
Oasis - Definitely Maybe
The Strokes - Is This It

Occasionally, and less and less as I get older, an album comes along that absolutely blows your head off the very first time you hear it. From the first note to the last you are in awe and you feel euphoric, like the world just changed and got slightly better, and nothing will ever be the same again. At least, just for those first, never to be repeated 60 minutes.

Cymbals Eat Guitars - Why There Are Mountains, is just such an album. Go out and buy it right away.

Right. I have done exactly wot you commanded and just bought it on vinyl for £12.99. It will be here by Wednesday

I have forfeited food for the day and turned the central heating off until Wednesday to pay for this....so no pressure Kris..

After listening three times a day for the last 4 days I'm starting to think it could be the greatest album since Giant Steps.....

I'm listening to it now, on the second track.

Sounds really good - the voice is very Pavement. I'll keep my options open, but at the moment I think I'll be agreeing with above comments.

It still hasn't arrived. I've just glared menacingly at the postman when he brought the bills.

I'm actually further back when it comes to getting hot music than I was twenty years ago, at least then I just had to get off me arse and go to a shop, now i order it all on line (saves £1 a time you know)...

Whilst the rest of the world spotifies and downloads i'm sitting waiting for brown envelopes in the post....(like cloughie)

Who on earth did you order it from??

I couldn't find it in a shop either, so had to take the shameful route of exchanging my hmv vouchers for iTunes vouchers and downloading the damn thing.

It's so good though I may order it again on CD so i can listen to it in the car Wink

well their obviously getting popular - start the bus rarely do tickets as pretty much every gig there is free yet they are doing them for this one now. Its a hefty £2.50 but i'll still give it a go Smile

as for the cd - rough trade have a version of it readily available according to its website - i didn't order it at the w/e but i did order my first couple of new releases for this year on saturday* and them lovely people there got them to me by today.

(* for them interested it was the fools gold album which i haven't played yet and the new owen pallet one which i have and its fucking ace)

Ha! It's arrived.

I love it when a vinyl album contains the CD as well for free. This is even better than when you get the download for free. The vinyl and the CD for £11.99 god it's like West Brom winning the champions league.

Right thats enough excitement, it's playing now and sounds promising so far. will issue full appraisal after several listens.

(bet you all can't wait)

incidentally I ordered "the pains of being pure at heart" as well which also arrived today.sadly this vinyl version contains neither a cd or a download so i've put it in the corner of my office facing the wall in disgrace that'll teach em.

cymbals eat guitars however, has pride of place on my desk.

Right, I'm going to check them out then.

Buying vinyl in the post is the best way to get a new record - it forces you to listen to it properly and give it a good chance, and some albums take a few goes to get into then you realise they're amazing.

I've been really rubbish recently for not listening to new stuff, I've fallen into the trap of listening to a couple of songs on the internet, deciding I like them, but never actually listening to a full album. I am missing out on loads of great stuff I think.

I promise to do better. x
