Happy Christmas to one and all.

Just been trying to think about the albums I've listened to this year. Predictably I think LCD Soundsystem was probably the album I listened to and loved most this year. And it was definitely my gig of the year.

I'd join you on LCD Soundsystem... The other contenders would be Laura Marling and Grinderman.

Happy Christmas
James

To be honest, following a couple of good years 2010 hasn't really done much for me in terms of new music. I think the number of albums I've bought this year has barely touched double-figures and the number I've enjoyed has been about half that.

Highlights for me have been:
- Boo Radleys remasters
- Martin's 'The Only Life I Know': song of the year for me
- Suede's new 'Best Of'
- Manics - 'Postcards From A Young Man':
- Weezer - 'Hurley'
- Motion City Soundtrack - 'My Dinosaur Life'
- Take That - 'Progress'
- Goldie Lookin Chain - 'The Mix Tape Two'

Still to give LCD Soundsystem a spin as I've heard nothing but praise, and apparently Belle and Sebastian have sneaked a new album out.

Anyways, Happy Christmas and here's to a much more musical 2011?

well i played best coast more than any other. its the kind of record that could only have come out of california. or glasgow.

other faves...

lonelady
owen pallett
these new puritans
anika
tamaryn
caitlin rose
steve mason
beach fossils
wild nothing
zola jesus
forest swords
gil scott heron
luke abbott
foals
sunshine underground

some pretty decent other albums as well in particular !!!, alesia's ark, avi buffalo, sleigh bells and the postmarks had some gems on their albums that were up there with my years fave tunes - thats been the trend of the last 3 years or so for me, great albums but fewer great "new" live acts.

the most surprisingly good one was new young pony clubs second one. didn't see them pulling off such a great pop/dance record. they were also better live than they'd ever been before which was nice to see as most bands tend to go the other way!

fave ep's have come from team ghost, ringo deathstarr, factory floor and mon khmer.

i share the love for lcd (either they, best coast or !!! were - probably! - my gig of the year).

the national album is wonderful in places (england and bloodbuzz surpass anything they've done imo) but not sure its an out there classic. and i'm worried about the joy formidable album. yes really. their blistering 7 track debut was sensational but i didn't enjoy them live as much this year as i did last - they seem to be getting a bit stodgy. still i've got a ticket to see them again in feb so they must still be doing ok Smile

forgot to mention the White Noise Sound album - one of my fave new live bands this year and the album nods to spaceman 3 and laser guided melodies. been a great record for this cold winter!
