i suppose i'm pretty embarrassed about being a donny osmond fan back in '74, though i only bought one album and never saw the band live
i think the first record i bought was called 'look around and you'll find me there' by vince hill, very smooth...and cringeworthy! |

Yes, that Ace of Base collection of mine is a bit cringe-worthy. Three albums-worth of that synth'ed up straight-to-radio pop that you either love or hate, and one masterpiece album that took the formula just a little step further. (But of course, that didn't sell so they reverted to their old style. You know how it is in the music biz. )

I'm bringing the good old thread back to life...
A couple of months ago I bought The Best of Frankie Goes To Hollywood... I thought that they were a good band, I had only heard good things about them, but... The whole bloody album is pure shite!
Okay, I didn't pay too much for it, but still, it's one of the records I wish I had never bought!
Yesterday I saw one of their old music videos on TV. I had a good laugh at those silly Pet Shop Boys wannabes!
More embarrassing records later... _________________

I was going to start a thread like this the other day, but never got round to it, still...
The most disturbing thing I have festering away in a cupboard is:
STRYPER.
Why
They are in good company, being flanked by Dokken, Magnum, Giuffria and White Lion. My mid teens were a descent into soft ponce rock hell ( I even liked a Then Jericho song for fucks sake!!!!). I nearly grew BIG HAIR and sucked in my cheeks like I'd just bitten a wasp!! (check out David Coverdale circa 1987 & you'll see what I mean!)
Fortunately I came through this incident relatively unscathed.
I am also a fan of Marillion!
I'll get my coat.......

'staring at the sun' by level 42, which, on top of being a level 42 album, was a really shit level 42 album, and has been deleted from my life in an act of stalinist revisionism.
my mate mat was right, i should have bought 'new jersey' by bon jovi. |

OK, we've been talking about our favourite/worst gigs lately, now it's time for the most embarrassing records you've bought. Again.
I've already mentioned "Deep Down & Dirty" by Stereo MC's and "The Best of Frankie Goes To Hollywood"... Here are some others:
- 3 albums by
The Wings
("At The Speed of Sound" was one of the first CDs I ever bought)
- 3 albums by
Duran Duran
(OK, 'Ordinary World' is a top song)
- 5
Deep Purple
albums (they aren't that bad actually but I think someone mocked them earlier in this thread. )
- "Permission To Land" by
The Darkness
... and yes, I like it.
AND...
- 2 albums by
Simply Red
!!! OK, I have no idea what I was thinking of when I bought them, I don't think I ever liked them (haha, honestly) but I listen to them every now and then - they always make me laugh. (come on, 'Something Got Me Started' is seriously funny)
[Seriously funny? How's that possible?] _________________
