Single: Hurt - Jonny Cash
Album: Radiohead, but only by default.
I think this year has been SHITE for albums. If I could choose albums that I heard for the first time this year then Wilco and Love would run away with it. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

man oh man i always mean to do a big ol' end of the year list and then just forget... but off the top of my head and in no particular order i've quite enjoyed...
the clientele - the violet hour
super furry animals - phantom power
grandaddy - sumday
white stripes - elephant (even though i really, really didn't want to like it)
distophia - soda lake
the sleepy jackson - lovers
south - with the tides
shack - here's tom with the weather (though not their best album by a long shot)
then there's also mc mabon, the stuff four tet put out, new gorky's record... the shins were pretty good too. loads of others but my mind is drawing a blank.
oh yeah... big tip for next year... if you ever see they're playing go and see them immediately... they're called bloc party and they sound like joy division on E.

I'd forgotten about the Fourtet album, that should be in there as well. But I agree that its not been a great year for albums. Loads of stuff which I was really looking forward to (The Strokes, Spiritualized) turned out to be disappointing. There's a new Air album out in January, hopefully that will make everything OK.
Can't believe that next year it will be 10 years since Parklife, Definitely Maybe and Dog Man Star were released. 10 years! I must be getting old. |

fuck forgot to include hurt by johnny cash, so good it somehow transcended all the other stuff I was thinking about.
So I'm putting it here on its own little pedestal.
Hurt.....single of the year, and possibly of my life.

Am I the only person that doesn't?
Oh and best gig was by far and away Radiohead at Glasto. Might have been the spliffs but it's the best gig I have EVER seen. _________________ "fashioned by the blade of a world that doesn't care,

Do you like any of the White Stripes albums?
They really should split up now, I think the next album would just be recycling old ideas.
Has any band ever split up when they're still at the top (commercially and artisitically)? Bands, like boxers, never seem to know when to give up. How cool would it have been if Oasis had split up on stage at Knebworth.
