To all Liverpool supporters, it is not over yet! Though I still can't believe how Juve could be so 'small' against a team like Liverpool, because let's face it, player to player, there's a definite class difference.

Laughing Isn't that a bit arrogant already? Liverpool aren't exactly a small team (in my opinion) and Juve haven't had that much success in Europe recently either. You're right, Juventus have a couple of world class stars in their team, so they have some very talented individuals there, but football is a team game... Wink
And of course it isn't over yet, in fact I think that Juve will beat Liverpool at home... they've only conceded 4 goals in this season's Champions League, but they've only scored 9 as well in a relatively easy group. So, Juventus V Liverpool sounds very much like a goalless draw! (I hope that Hyypiä will strike again and sink the Italians though!) Wink

I'm not sure Juve will win though. But I think Juve are a better team on paper. Liverpool is not a small team but they're a bit like Lazio are these days, I don't expect Juve to lose to them. I don't think this is arrogance. It was arrogant of Juventus player not to take it seriously from the start though (they probably thought it'd be easy). Well, if it was, sorry.

Oh and Kinky, Tommy used the word hate, I just carried on with it Razz
Nobody f***s with my signing off!

don't think the phil neal interview reflects well on neal or the journalist. if neal doesn't want to comment, that's up to him (though he has been quoted elsewhere), but bringing up the issue of money seems a bit tasteless.

i can't see how the journalist can justify printing that in an otherwise interesting article, the purpose of which surely can't have been to make ex-footballers look like money-grabbing idiots. it was him that chose to make that juxtaposition, so if it looks tasteless that must have been his intention.

what did you think of the reaction of some juve fans to the goodwill gestures, setareh? (some people turned their backs and made gestures when the friendship banner was paraded.) i don't think it's very helpful, but i was thinking - would liverpool fans warmly react to a load of south yorkshire policemen with a similar banner? i doubt it.

the game was ace! i was expecting a bit of a beating, but in the first half we made a top side look ordinary. still think the second leg will be difficult, but we've given ourselves a chance of getting through.

discordance, the bradford fire was a few weeks before heysel i think. someone died the same day at birmingham in a riot as well. i suppose it's worth remembering that for all the complaints that are made about how football has been commercialised no-one would want to go back to those days.

4-2 for Chelsea, and not a bad match either.
I think Chelsea were a bit lucky tonight, 2-1 for them would have been a fair result perhaps. It was good to see Mikael Forssell (Chelsea's best goalscorer last season!Wink ) back in action too, it's a shame he only got 3 minutes though.

The game was ace, in the first half we looked incredible, some of the passing was great. I knew we couldn't keep up that tempo all the way through and I was pleased we managed to hang on. Great finish by super Sami as well.

That Phil Neal quote comes across looking so bad in print and I'm sure thats not what he meant it to sound like when he was speaking to the journalist. I think its cheap of the journalist to publish that quote and reflects badly on him. I read a book about Johan Cruyff where he said that he'd only charge for interviews that he didn't want to do, not because he wanted the money but because he knew that if people thought they would have to pay then they wouldn't hassle him in the first place.

Obviously no-one wants to football ground to go back to being the wooden wrecks from the 70's however I don't think the over commericialisation of football which we've seen recently was necessary to revamp the grounds. The Taylor report said that converting grounds so that they're all seater shouldn't lead to a rise in ticket prices. There was an article in FourFourTwo a couple of months ago about how lower league clubs are struggling and how the St Johns Ambulance people are owed 35 grand by various football, including Bradford.

I didn't see any of those reactions but obviously it's childish and stupid. I'm sure they were some ultras wanting to hold grudges and pick a fight.
I am certain that none of them knew any of the deceased.
But there are groups like these in most fan fractions.

I guess it's a shame, 20 years on one should be able to forgive and learn from the past.

i agree. the taylor report was adopted very selectively.

but football wasn't awash with money then like it is now. today the obscene wages of the top players could be redirected to pay for ground improvements (or wipe out the lower league debts). then, maybe it needed the sky money to bring grounds up to scratch.

i think the two went hand-in-hand, before everything spiralled out of control. the sky money helped pay for all-seater grounds, which changed the atmosphere, which helped attract more fans, which created more money, which the players took, which made the clubd dependent on more sky money. or something.

There's probably nothing in this story but I'd love Owen to come back to us. Surely he couldn't resist the chance to play with the revitalised Igor Biscan.

Wrexham have won the LDV Vans Trophy final against Southend! Very Happy
0-2 after extra time, goals by Juan Ugarte and Darren Ferguson (Alex's son)
I really really really hope that Wrexham FC still exists next season and they avoid relegation.

Everton beat Crystal Palace 4-0 and are now 4 points ahead Liverpool in the league, who lost yesterday.
Tottenham beat Newcastle with Jermain Defoe's first half goal, and WBA who are battling against relegation shared the points with Aston Villa, thanks to Paul Robinson's equaliser on the injury time.

Real Madrid 4 - 2 Barcelona
1-0 Zidane 6 min.
2-0 Ronaldo 19 min.
2-1 Eto'o 28 min.
3-1 Raúl 45 + 1 min.
4-1 Owen 64 min.
4-2 Ronaldinho 72 min.

Absolutely fucking brilliant, I feel sorry for all those who didn't watch this. Smile One of the best games that I've seen this season, this one had it all.
Great cross from Ronaldo for the first goal, Zidane's diving header, and 1-0 for Real. The second one's almost just as good, this time the cross comes from Beckham who was superb tonight, and Ronaldo heads the ball in. Cameroonian international Samuel Eto'o flashes his skill on the 28th minute and scores a nice goal after a good run. Raúl scores 3-1 just before the half-time whistle - Roberto Carlos makes a great run on the left wing and takes the ball into the penalty box, he gives a low pass for Raúl who scores easily.
On the second half Barcelona has a couple of good chances to score, but Iker Casillas is incredible. Owen gets a brilliant through pass from Beckham on the 64th minute, Owen is one-on-one with Barca keeper and shoots the ball low into the net between his (Barca goalkeeper's) legs. Lucky? Perhaps... Ronaldinho scores a nice free kick goal 8 minutes later, and gives a glimmer of hope for Barcelona, but that's not enough and Real Madrid are now only 6 points behind in the league.

i think you put something in the bright eyes thread (can't remember why that one) that implied you'd got it, so don't worry!

i watched the thrill-a-minute football feast that was manchester city 1 liverpool 0. Mad we had one shot. it missed. the players didn't want to know. their minds are already in turin i suppose. if we play like that on wednesday it could be very embarrassing.
