argh!
What the hell is that referee doing in the World Cup?! He was completely lost most of the time, and those red cards he gave for USA were very very harsh, in my opinion even unfair.
Still, a great result for USA and every other team in their group (except for Italy, obviously). Now I just hope that Czech Republic beat Italy next week and Ghana win USA, that'd be awesome!
Sorry Setareh, but after tonight's performance I think I'm going to dislike Italy for the rest of my life, haha.
I mean really, they've got some very good footballers who can play really well when they want to, but why do they have to resort to cheating and diving and all sorts of nasty things? I don't hate all of them of course, but they've always had annoying players in the team, they have annoying players right now, and they probably always will in the future. Gattuso plays very hard but at least he (usually) plays fair, so he's alright. Maybe Del Piero too, but that's not enough to save Italy's bad reputation (it was already quite bad, but it just got even worse tonight) in my eyes.

From now on, for the rest of this tournament, I think I'm going to support every team that plays against Italy. Twisted Evil

PS. I don't really like the Italian national football team anymore, by the way.

OK, here's my top 5 LEAST favourite teams in this year's tournament, in no particular order. who's on your list?

ITALY - never really liked them so much, but after what I saw tonight, I just can't like them anymore no matter how hard I try. If you think that Argentinians are bad, then just imagine a team that cheats twice as much as they do and that's Italy for you. Razz Oh, and they've got Francesco Totti in their team which is already a good enough reason to dislike Italy.

HOLLAND - usually I don't have anything against the orange men, but usually they haven't been cheating as much as they did in the Ivory Coast match either. That wasn't nice at all to watch, Ivory Coast could have won the game or at least got a draw if there had been justice. And they've got Ruud van Nistelrooy and Arjen Robben in the team which makes them a little bit more annoying.

ENGLAND - haha, maybe I shouldn't admit this on a forum where almost everyone is English, but it always makes me feel a bit happy when England lose. The players seem to be so arrogant, and I know that if England won the World Cup now, they'd be talking about it for the next one hundred years at least, thinking that they've got some divine right to win every tournament. The fans apparently believe that they're actually so good that when they lose, it must be because the referee's bribed or the opponent cheated. The unbelievable conspiracy theories are always one of the funniest things during every World Cup. And yet the fans still complain about their own players and the manager all the time, which is indeed a bit paradoxal.
Also, the England fans can't stop talking about 1966, so it'd be horrible if they won the World Cup again! They were still selling those stupid England 5 - 1 Germany shirts in England when I was there, and some people still seem to be very proud of it like it was the best thing that has happened on the planet since 1966 - ok, it was a great victory for England but come on, it was just some meaningless friendly game years ago!!

PORTUGAL - Cristiano Ronaldo.
Quite possibly the most annoying footballer in the world right now.

Hmm, I couldn't think of another team that I don't like, so that's my Top 4 list then. I'll probably make a top 5 list of my favourite teams next time... Smile

TOMMY BOO. I am enjoying your passionate "analysis" of the teams and matches so much I have opened a new thread for you....

I know I know it should all be on "football" thread but for the duration of the World Cup Tommy can have a special section...certainly beats Gary Lineker and Gabby Logan... Razz

I'd like to beat Gary Lineker.

That USA vs Italy game yesterday was brilliant, I loves the World Cup so very much.

Tip of the day: put your mortgage on Brazil and Australia drawing 1-1.

Tomi, South Korea should be no.5 for so often profiting from opponents scoring good goals that aren't allowed. That's (at least) four at the last World Cup and another one tonight.

And the referee in tonight's game? The same official who disallowed two, maybe three good Liverpool goals in the World Club Cup final

Okaaay, I was gone from the internet this weekend but Tommy, you reeeally need a chill pill.

First off, what team isn't diving these days? Very few, if any. In that game Italy deserved at least three freekicks they didn't get.

De Rossi cannot represent an entire nation. I think that was stupid and evil of him too but I'm not gonna hate everyone else.
Alan Shearer for example has elbowed A LOT in his day, only not as obvious and stupid as De Rossi. Do you consider all English players horrible cheating bastards?

The American red cards were correct.

Italy-USA was an awful game, I can't believe Italy failed to score, I can't believe crap-USA managed to attack so much.

The law of football: the USA must never become successful, and thus not win against bigger teams. Football is the only sacred USA-free area we have really. In every other sport the USA is a serious contender.
Can we please have football left in peace?

Love & Peace (less hatred Tommy)

P.S. Most of my parts become happy too when England loses...huahahaha.

haha, I don't hate the whole Italy of course, I'm sure it's a lovely country and everything (although i've never been there so i can't say). I just find it impossible to like a team that has players like Totti or this annoying thug De Rossi.

All teams probably have players who dive, but there seems to be more of them in the Italy team than elsewhere. Razz I also find it annoying when they go complain at the referee after every decision, but at least they're clever enough to stop it early enough so that they don't always get booked for that. Also, it's just stupid when some Italian players roll on the pitch 'in pain' pretending to be injured, and then they're back in action a minute later. Their whole "stealing is OK as long as you don't get caught" attitude disgusts me a bit. There are other teams in this tournament who have been guilty of this too, of course (Holland for example), and I hope that none of them will get to the final.

And "Crap-USA" turned out to be better than everyone thought, in my opinion they should have won the game, and they probably would have won too without the two undeserved (in my opinion) red cards. The first one was an awful tackle indeed, but I don't think that the American guy had intention to hurt the Italian player, it was just a badly mistimed tackle. Never worth a straight red card. And the second one was hardly worth a sending off either... the Italian player just made it look more dramatic again. Rolling Eyes

English players aren't all horrible cheating bastards, but then again, I don't think that Shearer is either. He's done some stupid things during his career, but I can't remember anything too shocking. In fact I don't have anything against most of the England players, I just can't stand the way how the media likes to portray them. Yes, they might have invented the modern version of football, and yes, they did win the World Cup 40 years ago with a questionable goal, but they really should get their heads out of their arses and be a bit less annoying.

Hmm, anyway, I think this belongs to the tommyboo's world cup rants thread...

I've seen Shearer hit and elbow. More than once.

The USA weren't really better, just better than themselves. And the red cards were deserved, all the commentators and experts on tv here agreed with that statement so I'm not being biased or alone.

Love & Peace

I headbutted someone during a game of footy last night Confused Accidental of course.

When professionals play for 90 minutes a week for roughly 15 years, you are going to see more than one elbow thrown. Doesn't really mark them out as a dirty player. People who dive, elbow, hit consistently are, including Sheff Utd's Stevie Kabba, who despite being a good goalscorer I really hate.

I've seen more than one thing from Shearer...come on stop! I think he doesn't dive THAT much but he hits quite a lot.

Razz

Apparently, Fabio Cannavaro, the Italy captain, has said his team need to be more cynical (source: ITV). Well-timed comment, I don't think!

Watching England games is hard work these days, they need to drop Frank Lampard and let Owen Hargreaves take his place. Feel sorry for Michael Owen, apparently he's out for a few months again. He's hardly played since he left the Mighty Reds.

Would really like us to sign Torres, he looks really good. Looks like Bellamy is going to sign for us, I don't mind him, hopefully Rafa will keep him under control and he could be a bargain at 6m

this is what you'll get when you mess with us. walk out 3 days before the league season starts for a fraction of your true value and you will:
1. hardly play for your new team
2. miss out on winning the european cup
3. be sold again after one season to a mid-table club
4. be injured most of the season
5. go to the world cup with no match fitness and be slagged off for it
6. be injured again missing the rest of the world cup and probably a few months of next season, missing pre-season and no doubt taking most of the season to get properly fit

i really wanted him to come back to liverpool last summer but now i really don't care. you've made your bed...

just read that the northern rock adverts featuring owen in a newcastle kit saying "can we have him back in one piece" have been pulled. ha ha ha.

sorry. i got woken at 7.30 this morning on my day off by people digging up the road and then missed the first half of portugal-mexico due to a power cut. not having the best day.
