true. i think it may have been counter productive. it's going to be a lot harder to prove now that everyone has been tipped off.

liverpool will be under new ownership in the next few days. i've put my bid in.

what do you reckon? Steve Morgan?

Agree. And it didn't clearly prove any corruption imo. No doubt that the game has a rotten element and the real proof is the - sadly - much overlooked (and still not challenged or sued) Tom Bower book "Broken Dreams". Difficult to find any love for Harry Redknapp, Arsenal or Peter Reid after reading it.

On a happier note are Tommy Boo's team now the most entertaining in England? 32 goals in 8 league matches, 2 goal leads thrown or clawed back on a regular basis.... sad that I can't make our match up there now!

.... and I was there, and I won 30 quid on us scoring the 1st goal, which will now go in petrol to get me to the gig next Sunday!

Can you believe we have odds so bad, that if we'd scored first and won 1-0, I would have won £750!!!

football film round-up:

once in a lifetime - documentary about he 1970's New York Cosmos team, very entertaining.

zidane - arty film following zidane about the pitch for 90 minutes with a soundtrack by mogwai. its really good in places (mainly the mogwai bits) but it gets a bit dull in places. not a good date movie.

where have you seen those? I wanted to see Once In A Lifetime but I didn't see anywhere here showing it

don't think Zidane merits a film, mind... a DVD of his best moments on the pitch would suffice, without making him out to be some sort of god

once is a lifetime is out on dvd now. the zidane film could be about any player really, it works best when they have quotes from him at the bottom of the screen as well as footage of him on the pitch.

ok, cheers.

File under 'independent films that may or may not have been possible to see at the cinema in Dublin but I didn't see them so now have to seek them out on DVD' (along with The Devil & Daniel Johnston)

I'd have thought Dublin would have loads of arty cinemas now its all posh and expensive. Manchester has got the Cornerhouse and Liverpool as got the FACT centre which usually show stuff like that which is cool. Shouldn't this be in the INDEPENDENT LOCAL CINEMA thread?

but we were talking about footy films! (until I strayed a little...)

I'm not gonna continue a conversation in a different thread, so I'll just say, the Daniel Johnson one was shown in an arty cinema here, but was gone again in the blink of an eye (well, before I knew about it).

I didn't see Once In A Lifetime on anywhere, although I had a look, after reading a review of it in the paper while the World Cup was still on.

and, getting back to football, does anyone think international football as we know it will be f*cked if clubs win the case over whether national football associations should have to compensate clubs when their players are injured on international duty?

I think football as we know it will be fooked if one player were to take a club to court over to having to see out their contract. I read an article the other week which said that the current system would be unlikely to stand up in court and so transfer fees would be abolished and players could move between clubs for nowt after serving a minimal notice period just like real people can. I bet Ashley Cole will be the man who goes to court after Chelsea force him to stay on when he's only earning £400k a week.

I put a fiver on us to win the league today at 40/1. I'm assuming our piss poor performance on Sunday was just a way of lullling our title rivals into a false sense of security. I am a fool.
